𝐈𝐧 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬 | 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐆𝐚𝐰𝐢 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
From research to real-world impact, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) continues to strengthen its Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) mission by advancing alternative delivery modalities under its Strategic Development Plan 2025–2030.
As part of this direction, selected SLSU personnel took part in 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗚𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭: 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a workshop that introduced the concepts, principles, challenges, and opportunities of Science Communication in the university context.
The activity emphasized the vital role of SciComm in making research clear, accessible, relevant, and meaningful to different audiences, especially in bridging scientific knowledge with the everyday lives of communities. It also served as a foundation for developing future SalingGawi content that translates SLSU’s research and extension initiatives into stories of impact.
We are honored to have 𝗮𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝘆 𝗦. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 from the Department of Science Communication, University of the Philippines Los Baños, as resource speaker for this meaningful activity, in partnership with OES, ORS, and KMO.

𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗚𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭: 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
From research to real-world impact—Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) continues to strengthen its RDE (Research, Development, and Extension) mission by advancing alternative delivery modalities under its Strategic Development Plan (SDP) 2025–2030, in response to the evolving ways our communities engage with knowledge and technology.
At the core of this transformation is 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (SciComm)—the practice of making science clear, accessible, and meaningful to diverse audiences. By bridging the gap between research and everyday life, SciComm ensures that knowledge does not remain confined to academic circles but becomes a tool for empowerment and progress in communities.
This workshop brings together selected personnel to build a strong foundation in SciComm, preparing them for the launch of 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗚𝗮𝘄𝗶—a university platform designed to translate scientific practices and innovations into forms that resonate with stakeholders. Through this initiative, RDE outputs will be communicated in ways that are not only understandable but also impactful, fostering deeper engagement and real-world application.
We are privileged to welcome 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝘆 𝗦. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 of the Department of Science Communication, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, who will serve as our resource person. To further solidify its goal to steward programs for environmental protection and conservation, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) formalized its partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Lucban, Quezon, through the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on June 3.

One such initiative is the Environmental Justice Sector Reform Project – Phase 3 (EJSRP 3), implemented through the Oscar F. Santos Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) in partnership with Tanggol Kalikasan (TK) and funded by the United States Department of the Interior International Technical Assistance Program.

The Southern Luzon State University - College of Arts and Sciences (SLSU CAS) Extension Project, “Dinsulan: Quezon Writers’ Workshop” brings pride and honor to the university after being featured in the Weekly Dispatches from the Frontlines of World Literature through the internationally acclaimed Asymptote Journal, written by Alton Melvar M Dapanas.

Led by Mr. Norman Vincent Paderes, together with Prof. Joan Dizon and Mr. Alvin Ursua, the extension project aims to nurture emerging writers in Quezon Province by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to pursue creative writing in the national language.

Running from April 2025 to March 2027, the project serves promising fellows who write creative works using the national language, producing significant men and women of letters guided by well-respected writers of the province and of the country.

The Dinsulan workshop’s international recognition highlights the project’s growing contribution to the development and promotion of Filipino literary arts.
