𝑴𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒆 🛺

Last April 22, the UPLB DLS carried out a Libreng Sakay and Free Meal initiative as a gesture of appreciation for these dedicated drivers who continue to persevere despite the many challenges faced in our country.

Moments from the day capture free rides across the UPLB campus, where students and jeepney drivers came together in shared spaces of service and support. From waiting in line to moving along the Kaliwa–Kanan route, each frame reflects a community in motion.

Beyond the ride, these moments point to a larger reality. One shaped by rising fuel costs and the everyday struggles of transport workers. Libreng Sakay stands as both support and a quiet call for change toward fairer conditions for those who keep our roads moving.

This initiative serves as a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can go a long way in uplifting those who keep our communities moving.

Sa gitna ng patuloy na pang-aabuso sa kalikasan na kumikitil sa buhay at kinabukasan ng mga mamamayan, higit kailanma'y hamon sa midya na maging tagapagbantay at tagapagtaguyod sa kapakanan ng ating kapaligiran.

Kaya naman, abangan ang pagtunog ng The 20th UP ComBroadSoc Gandingan Awards, tangan ang temang "𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐚𝐧, 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧." Magsama-sama tayo sa D.L. Umali Hall, University of the Philippines Los Baños, sa darating na ika-25 ng Abril, ika-4 ng hapon, upang parangalan ang mga kawani ng midya, programa, at istoryang tumugon sa hamon ng kalikasan.

Patuloy na dadagundong ang Gandingan para sa kalikasan at para sa bayan. Lagi't lagi, tayo ang Gandingan!

Sa patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng langis, lalong bumibigat ang kalagayan ng mga tsuper na araw-araw umaasa sa pasada para sa kanilang kabuhayan.

Sa gitna ng ganitong krisis, malinaw na ito sistemikong problema na direktang tumatama sa mga tsuper na siyang pangunahing tagapagpatakbo ng pampublikong transportasyon sa bansa.

Bilang pakikiisa sa kanilang laban, magsasagawa ang UPLB Delta Lambda Sigma ng 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐲 ngayong 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎, 𝟐:𝟎𝟎–𝟒:𝟎𝟎 𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐍 sa rutang Raymundo, Landbank, Forestry, at FO.

Kasabay nito, mamamahagi rin ng 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐤𝐚𝐢𝐧 para sa ating mga jeepney at tricycle drivers bilang suporta at pakikiisa sa kanilang araw-araw na pakikibaka sa kalsada.

Sa pamamagitan ng inisyatibang ito, hangad naming na makatulong sa patuloy na pagtulak ng panawagan para sa mas makatarungan at sistemikong solusyon sa patuloy na krisis na kinakaharap ng mga tsuper.

𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐨, 𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚?

Sa gitna ng muling pagkasa ng transport strike, muling sumisigaw ang sektor ng transportasyon para sa tunay na solusyon sa matagal nang krisis sa pamasahe, langis, at kabuhayan.

Sa bawat pag-andar ng jeep sa kalsada, dala ng mga tsuper hindi lang pasahero kundi ang araw-araw na laban para sa kabuhayan. Sa gitna ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng krudo at mga gastusin sa operasyon, lalong bumibigat ang pasan nila habang nananatiling halos pareho —o mas lumiit pa— ang kita.

Hindi simpleng trabaho ang pagmamaneho sa pampublikong transportasyon. Ito ay mahabang oras ng biyahe, init ng kalsada, panganib sa daan, at patuloy na pagkalkula kung sasapat pa ba ang kinita para sa pamilya. Sa ganitong kalagayan, ang bawat taas-presyo sa langis ay direktang hampas sa kanilang kabuhayan.

Ang UPLB Delta Lambda Sigma ay nakikiisa sa paggunita ng Araw ng Kagitingan na binibigyang-pugay ang libo-libong Pilipinong lumalaban at nagbuwis ng buhay upang ipagtanggol ang bayan noong Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdigan. Sila ang ating mga bayani na sa kabila marahas na panunupil ay naninindigan para sa dangal at kalayaan ng sambayanan.

Kasabay ng pag-alala sa kanilang kabayanihan, sawirain din natin ang Bataan Death March, na isa sa pinakamadilim na yugto ng kasaysayan. Mahigit 66,000 Pilipino ang sapilitang pinalakad ng mahigit 100 na kilometro mula Bataan hanggang Tarlac. Sa ilalim ng nag-aapoy na araw, gutom, at matinding pagod, marami ang hindi nakaligtas. Hungkag din ang kaligtasan ng mga nakatapos dahil sila ay nakaranas ng higit pa na paghihirap sa bilangguan.

Ngunit ang diwa ng kagitingan ay hindi natatapos sa pahina ng kasaysayan. Bagama’t hindi tayo direktang sakop ng dayuhan, patuloy pa rin tayong inaalipin ng isang imperyalistang estado na mapanupil at maka-dayuhan. Sa ilalim ng rehimeng Marcos-Duterte, patuloy na naghihirap ang mga mamamayan at lumalala ang krisis ng lipunan. Sa halip na pakinggan ang hinaing ng masa—magsasaka, manggagawa, mangingisda, kabataan, at kababaihan na lumalaban para sa karapatan at katarungan, mas pinipili ng estado ang intimidasyon at militarisasyon.

Dapat tayong manindigan—hangga’t may naghihirap, patuloy ang diwa ng kagitingan ng sambayanang Pilipino. Bitbit natin ang tapang ng ating mga bayani upang ipagpatuloy ang pakikibaka para sa tunay na kalayaan at makatarungang lipunan. Ang Araw ng Kagitingan ay hindi lamang paggunita sa nakaraan; isa rin itong panawagan sa kasalukuyan na lumaban sa pasismo, pang-aabuso, at pananamantala. Sa diwa ng kagitingan, patuloy natin upaglaban ang bayan, karapatan ng mamamayan, at tunay na kasarinlan.
