Ngayong araw ng Hunyo 12, inaalala natin ang kalayaan na nakamit ng rebolusyon ni Bonifacio katapos ng mahigit tatlong siglong pananakop ng mga kastila.

Bagama’t nagwagi ang kanilang rebolusyon noon, hindi parin natatapos ang laban ng mamamayang Pilipino. Sinundan ito ng malakolonyal na pananakop ng imperyalistang US at hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay lantad parin ang pagka-sunudsunuran ng estado sa mga dayuhang kapangyarihan.

Lantad rin na hinahayaan ng pamahalaan ang pagkamkam ng imperyalistang US at mga dayuhang korporasyon sa mga likas na yaman ng ating bansa. Patuloy ring pinahihintulutan ng estado na kontrolin ng mga dayuhan ang ekonomiya ng bansa at presensya ng mga militar ng US sa ating bansa.

Habang patuloy ang pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin at pabulusok ang antas ng pamumuhay sa bansa, inuuna parin ng rehimeng Marcos at Duterte ang interes ng dayuhan at sariling kapakanan kaysa ibigay ang tunay kalayaan sa mamamayan.

Gawa nito, patuloy ang mga protesta ng iba’t-ibang mga progresibong grupo ng bansa para sa tunay na kalayaan.

Nakikiisa ang UP Silakbo sa mga panawagang panagutin ang mga tiwali at ipaglaban ang isang bansang may tunay na kalayaan, katarungan, at pagsilbi sa mamamayan. Ang tunay na pambansang kalayaan ay matatamo sa pagpapabagsak ng mga sistemang nagpapanatili sa kahirapan ng ating mga mamamayan!

Sa araw ng Hunyo 12, sama-sama nating igiit ang tunay na kalayaan at kumilos laban sa mga tunay na nagpapahirap sa ating bansa !

Ngayong araw, ating ginugunita ang kagitingan ng mga Pilipinong buong tapang na ipinaglaban ang ating bayan laban sa imperyalistang Japan noong Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig. Idineklara ang kauna-unahang Bataan Day noong ika-9 ng Abril 1961, bilang paggunita sa 76,000 Pilipino at noo’y kaalyadong Amerikanong mga sundalo na naging biktima ng Bataan Death March noong 1942. Kinalauna’y binansagan itong Araw ng Kagitingan bilang pagpupugay sa lahat ng mga makabayan at rebolusyonaryong mamamayang Pilipinong ipinaglaban ang pambansang soberanya ng Pilipinas noong panahon ng mga Hapones.

Subalit sa kabila ng kanilang tagumpay na kumawala sa tanikala ng imperyalistang Japan, hindi maikakailang hindi pa rin tunay na malaya ang ating bansa mula sa kontrol ng mga imperyalistang dayuhan. Kung noo’y nagdurusa ang mga mamamayang Pilipino sa karahasan at paninindak ng mga Hapones, ngayon nama’y nagdurusa ang buong Pilipinas sa pagtaas ng presyo ng krudo—resulta ng pagbobomba sa Gitnang Silangan ng imperyalistang US, na siyang iginigiit ang kanilang pandaigdigang kontrol at kapangyarihan.

Resulta ng kasakiman ng pananakop ng Japan ang pagka-martir ng libo-libong Pilipino at pagkapilay ng ating pambansang ekonomiya mula sa giyerang idinulot nito. Sa parehong paraan, resulta rin ng kasakiman ng imperyalistang US ang dumadagundong na taghoy ng mga tsuper, komyuter, at lahat ng karaniwang mamamayan sa patuloy na pagtaas na presyo ng mga bilihin ngayon.

Nakikiisa ang UP Silakbo sa paggunita ng ika-66 na Araw ng Kagitingan at ika-84 na anibersaryo ng Bataan Death March. Nawa’y magsilbi itong paalala at panawagan sa ating lahat na muling isabuhay ang kagitingan ng mga sundalo at rebolusyonaryong Pilipino noon, upang ipaglaban ang ating mga karapatan at isulong ang tunay na kalayaan.
