Last April 23, UP Socius successfully held the symposium โ€œ๐‘ซ๐‘จ๐‘ต๐‘จ๐‘บ! ๐‘ฌ๐’™๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฐ๐’๐’”๐’•๐’Š๐’•๐’–๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’๐’‚๐’ ๐‘น๐’†๐’”๐’‘๐’๐’๐’”๐’†๐’” ๐’•๐’ ๐‘ฌ๐’…๐’–๐’„๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ช๐’๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’–๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ป๐’Š๐’Ž๐’†๐’” ๐’๐’‡ ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’•๐’šโ€ at the CAS Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos, bringing together around 100 participants from both within and beyond the university community. More than a symposium, the event became a collective space for reflection on how earthquakes, floods, heat waves, and other environmental disruptions increasingly shape our collective danas as students, educators, and members of the academic community.

The symposium featured two distinguished speakers: Dr. Carlos Primero Gundran of UP Manila and Dr. Katherine Buenaflor of Ateneo de Manila University. Drawing from the fields of disaster risk reduction and environmental governance, the discussions emphasized that climate-related disruptions are no longer distant possibilities but lived realities that continuously affect the future of the Filipino students. Both speakers underscored the urgent need to strengthen institutional preparedness and move toward more proactive, sustainable, and climate-responsive approaches within the education sector.

More importantly, the event challenged participants to look beyond individual adjustment and resilience by critically reflecting on the broader systems that shape educational experiences during times of crisis. As climate-related hazards continue to intensify, the symposium ultimately affirmed the importance of collective action and institutional foresight in protecting not only the continuity of education, but also the people continuously navigating its disruptions.
