FARM Philippines, in partnership with the UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST PCAARRD), successfully conducted a series of events on March 31, 2026 at The Manila Hotel, Philippines. The catalytic events aimed to advance sustainable crop protection solutions in the country. This initiative is part of the Philippine component of the regional project with India titled, โ€œPromoting Eco-friendly Crop Protection Solutions for Persistent Organic Pollutants and Highly Hazardous Pesticides Reduction in Asiaโ€ or FARM Philippines Project.

Five activities were held in succession during the day, beginning with the National Policy Forum, then followed by the Ceremonial Signing of Agreements with Partners, and the Stakeholder Engagement Workshops. The Project Management Unit and the Technical Working Group then met first with the National Project Steering Committee (PSC), and then with the Regional PSC.

The National Policy forum brought six speakers to share their perspectives on the theme, โ€œIncentivizing the Formulation, Production, and Application of Eco-Friendly Crop Protection Solutions in the Philippines.โ€ After the speakersโ€™ presentations, a panel of discussants then shared their outlook on the same topics presented. The speakers and discussants represented a wide range of expertise and experience, and consisted of local and international experts, and representatives from HIL Ltd, the Projectโ€™s partner from India. Aside from on-site participants, 14,000 views were registered on Facebook Live, connecting stakeholders across the Philippines and globally.

To manifest FARMโ€™s commitment to strong partnerships and collaboration, the Philippine Agriculture and Resources Research Foundation, Inc. - PARRFI - the Projectโ€™s executing entity - signed agreements with several private sector representatives. These agreements formalized the engagement of key stakeholders in the registration, commercialization, and importation of local and imported biopesticides.

First, PARRFI signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Innovative Multidisciplinary R&D Projects for Accelerating Community Transformation (IMPACT R&D) Incorporated. This partnership will support the field testing and validation of biopesticides to generate the necessary evidence to promote biopesticide adoption among farmers. Then, the Foundation signed a Statement of Cooperation with the Visayan Agricultural Innovations Incorporated (VAII), Ada Manufacturing Corporation (ADAMCO), Ahcil Laboratories Inc., and Haltec Crop Labs. These partnerships are expected to support locally developed biopesticides across various stages, from validation and registration to piloting and pre-commercialization, while boosting confidence among farmers, financiers, and markets ultimately enabling wider adoption of biopesticides.

The Stakeholder Engagement Workshop served as an avenue to engage a broader range of stakeholders in four break-out sessions with specific goals aligned with the Project components. The first workshop validated existing policy gaps and elicited issues and priority actions on biopesticides. The second session discussed the direction and strategy on establishing an enhanced national database and digital hub on biopesticides. The third session tackled models of financing programs and insurance mechanisms aimed at supporting actors in the biopesticide chain, particularly farmers. Finally, in the fourth session, participants brainstormed priority training topics and delivery approaches to raise awareness and build the capacity of farmers and other stakeholders on biopesticides.

FARM Philippines then held back-to-back meetings, with the National Project Steering Committee (PSC) and then with the Regional PSC. The National PSC reviewed Project accomplishments and provided guidance on next steps after the dayโ€™s events. In the Regional PSC, FARM Philippines met with UNIDO and FARM India to review the implementation progress and discuss the synchronization of the workplans between the two countries.

The participation of all partners and stakeholders throughout the day agrees well for FARM Philippines as it continues to strengthen partnerships, promote innovation, and contribute to creating an enabling environment to accelerate the nationwide adoption and scale of biopesticides.
