Resident members and applicants gathered for a day filled with energy and growth for our annual 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲.

Our newest additions brought their own flavor to the table, challenging our resident members in every activity and showing us that teamwork and dedication are the perfect recipe for success! But no matter how hot the competition got, it was a day spent building bonds that will run deeper and last longer than any code.

From asking “Where can I sell my harvest?” to securing a 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, Team 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗶 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗴 proved that the right idea can grow into something bigger.

Among 𝟭𝟬 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 from across the Philippines, the team stood out with 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, a harvest-based market discovery tool that helps farmers find suitable market outlets while reducing unnecessary travel, costs, and effort. 📍

Their idea turned a real-world agricultural challenge into an innovative solution and ultimately took home the top prize.

The First Actual "Computer Bug" 🦋

On September 9, 1947, engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer found something unexpected causing a glitch: an actual moth trapped in one of the relays!

While "bug" was already slang for a technical fault, this was the first recorded instance of a literal bug causing a computer problem. The logbook entry with the moth still taped in is now preserved at the Smithsonian.

Ngayong araw, Setyembre 21, ginugunita ang ika-54 anibersaryo ng deklarasyon ng Batas Militar sa ilalim ng diktaduryang Marcos. Mahigit limampung taon man ang nakalipas, hindi natatapos, ramdam at buhay pa rin ang mga sugat nito ngayon, sa patuloy na pag-iwas sa pananagutan, sa pagtatangkang burahin ang katotohanan, at sa kulturang nagpaparusa sa mga naglalakas-loob magsalita.

Sa paglipas ng mahigit limang dekada, nananatiling buhay ang sigaw para sa katarungan ng libu-libong biktima ng karahasan at paglabag sa karapatang pantao. Kasabay ng pagluluksa para sa mga pamilyang inulila at sa demokrasyang binaluktot ng rehimen, patuloy nating iginiit ang buong pananagutan sa sistemikong pagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan.

Bilang mga Software Engineers ng bayan, naniniwala kami na ang tunay na kaunlaran ay hindi maitatayo sa ibabaw ng kasinungalingan at nakalimutang dusa ng masa. Kami ay naglalayong isulong ang larangan at makibahagi sa pambansang kaunlaran. Isang paraan ng aming pakikibahagi ang pagtindig at pakikibaka, dahil ang kaunlaran ay hindi tuluyang matatamo habang ang masa’y naghihirap at ang mga Marcos ay walang pananagutan.

Kasama ang bayan, ang Young Software Engineers’ Society (YSES) ay patuloy na sumusulong upang panagutin ang mga nagkasala noong Martial Law at tiyaking hindi na kailanman mauulit ang parehong pasismo at panunupil. Isang tahasang pagtindig laban sa mga naghaharing-uri at sa kanilang mapagsamantalang kapangyarihan ang ating paggunita sa deklarasyon ng Batas Militar.

Sa ating pagluluksa at pag-alala, maging matibay sana ang linya ng paninindigan para sa mas makatarungang bukas. Tumindig, magluksa, at makibaka!
