✈️ 𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙅𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙!

Meet James Lourence Vallente, a BS Computer Science student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, whose undergraduate research just got accepted for 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 at the 9th International Conference on Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence (MLMI 2026), happening in Tokyo, Japan this July 17 to 20, 2026.

His study is called iskStress, a hybrid AI system that uses a fine-tuned language model and a culturally adapted tool to detect stress in Taglish social media posts from Filipino academic communities. It is a meaningful attempt to let technology watch over the mental well-being of students.

Once presented, his work will be published in the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series, and indexed in globally recognized academic databases including Ei Compendex and Scopus.

𝗔𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻, also known as the 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿, is a national holiday in the Philippines that honors the bravery of Filipinos during World War II. It is observed to remember those who fought and sacrificed for the nation’s freedom.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘺?
The day commemorates the Filipino and American soldiers who resisted Japanese forces in 1942. Following the fall of Bataan, thousands were forced to endure the infamous 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, a brutal 140-kilometer journey marked by:

• 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 and exhaustion.
• 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 and dehydration.
• 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 and systemic violence.

Meet Trisha Jean Ramos, a BS Computer Science senior from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, whose undergraduate research just got accepted for 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 at the 26th Philippine Computing Science Congress (PCSC 2026), happening in Davao City this April 23 to 25, 2026.

Her study is called TUDLO, an NLP-based AI chatbot that generates step-by-step math explanations in Tagalog and Cebuano for early-grade students. It is a small but meaningful attempt to support teachers who want to teach math in local languages. 💡
