𝐁𝐔 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢'𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐔𝐒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐓-𝐒𝐈𝐏𝐍𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭-𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦
In an event that marked a significant milestone for academic collaboration and community engagement, Bicol University's Extension Management Division recently organized the "Bicol University Extension Colloquium," a two-day event held from October 24 to 25, 2023, at AVP Catering Services in Legazpi City, gathering academic luminaries, extension experts, and representatives from various State Universities and Colleges and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the Bicol Region.
The colloquium centered on the theme "Strengthening Community Engagement through Linkages and Collaborative Extension Programs of Higher Education Institutions in the Bicol Region." It served as a platform for the exchange of ideas, best practices, and insights into the ever-evolving landscape of community engagement through higher education.
The first day was dedicated to a series of conferences where scholars and experts discussed the challenges, opportunities, and the way forward in extending academic excellence to the community. While, the second day was marked by an impressive array of Paper and Poster Presentations, which showcased the innovative projects and research undertaken by scholars from different HEIs in the region.
Standing out amidst the presentations were the fourth-year BSEd Mathematics students from BU Polangui, who seized the opportunity to shine in front of a discerning audience, including extension directors, top practitioners, and esteemed professors from both within and beyond their academic institution.
Team ABACUS, with their research titled "𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘳𝘦-𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴: 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘜𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 (𝘈𝘉𝘈𝘊𝘜𝘚) 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴," drew the attention of the audience. The team was composed of Angeline T. Realubit, Charles M. Silerio, and Lovely Mae P. Reverente, and guided by Mr. John Thomas P. Satimbre (Adviser). Presented by Reverente, their study equipped an innovative approach to future mathematics educators to capacitate pre-service mathematics teachers through evaluation, developmental, and exploratory methods, using purposive sampling from nearby colleges.
Not to be outdone, Team ANGAT-SIPNAYAN presented their pioneering work titled "𝘗𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘵-𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘵-𝘚𝘪𝘱𝘯𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 (𝘊𝘓𝘊) 𝘪𝘯 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘎𝘦𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘺." Comprised of Charles Adrian P. Salomon, Ina Patricia B. Santiago, and Melboy F. Mirinda (Presenter), along with the invaluable guidance of Mr. Edward B. Pescuela (Adviser), they demonstrated their commitment to nurturing young minds in the realm of mathematics through the implementation of community learning center programs, specially in the new-normal.
Indeed, the Bicol University Extension Colloquium was more than just an academic gathering; it was a platform for knowledge sharing, inspiration, and growth.

The Bicol University Extension Colloquium marks a significant milestone in the realm of higher education institutions in the Bicol Region. By convening at this colloquium, these institutions are not only exchanging knowledge but also reaffirming their role as catalysts for positive change within the region and bridging the gap between academia and the local population.
