𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | In the spirit of June 12, the Diocesan Commission on Social Concerns (DCSC) of the Diocese of Legazpi held its General Assembly yesterday — a powerful response to the Pastoral Letter on the Current Political and Economic Crisis issued by our beloved Bishop, Most Rev. Joel Z. Baylon.

Here's what went down:
📖 𝗞𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲— A CBCP-endorsed module on Citizen Empowerment was presented to guide our communities toward informed and active citizenship.

🤝 "𝗗𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴" 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁— A call for unity and solidarity among the Filipino people was discussed and embraced.

✍️ 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲'𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗮𝘄 — A landmark discussion on a People's Initiative aimed at passing an Anti-Dynasty Law, which will undergo key phases: Signature Gathering, Submission of Petition to COMELEC and National Referendum.

🖊️𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻g — National Signing Day of Dapat Isa Lang Movement led by Bishop Joel Baylon, SAC Executive Director Rev. Fr. Eric Martillano, and DCSC Chair Rev. Fr. Rex Paul Arjona — a historic moment of commitment to truth, justice, and reform.

The assembly was capped off with a follow-through discussion from the 2nd Diocesan Anti-Poverty Summit, keeping the momentum alive for meaningful change.

Bishop Baylon, who endorsed the movement in a pastoral letter, joins hundreds of ka-isas nationwide who signed the people's initiative on its signing day today to commemorate the 128th Independence Day.

MAHALIN ANG DIYOS, MAHALIN ANG BAYAN. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

The Church teaches that “the love and service of one’s country belong to the order of charity” (CCC 2239). Patriotism, therefore, is not separate from our Christian life. We celebrate Independence Day not merely as citizens, but as disciples. And today, the Sacred Heart reminds us what that love should look like: humble, truthful, compassionate, and self-sacrificing.

To love God is also to seek the good of our neighbor and our nation. A faithful Catholic strives to be a good citizen.
