Did You Know that.....

A bacterium found in Albay can produce a natural purple pigment with promising medical applications?

The bacterium Chromobacterium violaceum produces violacein, a striking purple pigment that has attracted scientific interest because of its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and anticancer properties in laboratory studies.

Researchers from Bicol University successfully isolated and characterized a violacein-producing strain from Nag-aso Boiling Lake in Manito, Albay, highlighting the remarkable microbial diversity found in the Philippines and its potential for future biomedical discoveries.

Every Bird Counts; Your Observations Matter.

Taun-taon, libu-libong migratory birds ang bumibiyahe nang napakalayo upang maghanap ng pagkain, ligtas na pahingahan, at lugar kung saan maaari silang magpatuloy sa kanilang buhay.

Sa kanilang paglalakbay, mahalaga ang mga wetlands, baybayin, ilog, estero, at iba pang natural na tirahan na nagsisilbing pahingahan at feeding grounds ng mga ibong dumaraan sa ating bansa.
Ngayong World Migratory Bird Day, ipinapaalala ng DENR National Capital Region na mahalaga ang bawat ibon, at mahalaga rin ang bawat obserbasyon.

Ang simpleng pagmamasid, pagtatala, at pagbabahagi ng impormasyon tungkol sa mga migratory bird ay makatutulong sa pag-unawa sa kanilang galaw, tirahan, at mga hamong kinakaharap. Ang mga datos na ito ay maaaring magsilbing gabay sa mas mahusay na pangangalaga at pamamahala ng kanilang mga habitat.

Kaya sa susunod na makakita ka ng ibong dumadayo, huminto, magmasid, at magtala. Maaaring maliit lamang ang iyong obserbasyon, pero maaari itong maging bahagi ng mas malaking larawan ng ating biodiversity.
