𝗔𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮!

Ngayong buwan ng Agosto, kaisa ang BU College Y Club ng pamayanang akademiko sa pagdiriwang ng dalawang mahalagang okasyon: ang Buwan ng Wika na may temang “Paglinang sa Filipino at Katutubong Wika: Makasaysayan sa Pagkakaisa ng Bansa,” at ang Buwan ng Kasaysayan.

Sa ating modernong lipunan, tila unti-unti nang humihina ang koneksiyon ng mga mamamayan sa ating pambansang wika at nagiging talamak na rin sa lipunan ang pagbaluktot ng kasaysayan; ito'y banta sa mabisang komunikasyon at pagsulong ng kultura, karunungan, at katarungan. Kaya naman, pangunahing lunggati namin sa BU College Y Club ang maibalik ang kahalagahan ng wika at muling maiparating sa madla ang papel na ginagampanan ng kasaysayan tungo sa katarungan, pagkakabuklod-buklod, pagkamulat, at pag-usad ng kaunlaran sa bansa. 📖

Aming hangad na muling linangin at buhayin ang kamalayan ng kabataan sa halaga ng wika at kasaysayan bilang pundasyon ng pagkakakilanlan, pagkakaisa, at pagbabagong panlipunan. Marapat lamang maisip na ang wika ay hindi lamang para sa talastalasan at ang kasaysayan ay hindi lamang tala ng nakaraan. Dala ng mga ito ang diwa ng sambayanan, pawang kabilin para sa kabataan, at tunay na buhay na salamin ng ating pag-iral at pakikibaka. Sabi nga, hindi natin mauunawaan ang kasalukuyan kung hindi natin sisipatin ang kahapon. Upang mapadalisay ang ating mga adbokasiya at paghahangad sa isang mabuting kinabukasan, marapat lamang na tayo'y matuto sa nakaraan at sikaping pangalagaan ang ating natatanging pagkakakilanlan.

Ang kabataang Pilipino, bilang tagapagmana ng diwa ng kasaysayan, ay inaasahang magiging daluyan ng pagbabago at pag-asa. Sa ating mga kamay nakasalalay ang pagpapatuloy ng diwang makabayan, makatao, at makatarungan. Kaming mga kabataan sa BU College Y Club ay naninindigan na ang paglilinang sa wika at pagninilay sa kasaysayan ay hindi lamang selebrasyon 'pagkat ito ay paninindigan para sa bayan, panawagan para sa pagkakaisa, at paghahanda sa isang mas maliwanag na kinabukasan.

Sa diwa nitong pagdiriwang, patuloy nating "Pagtitibayin ang Kabataan at Patatatagin ang mga Pamayanan." (Empowering Youth, Strengthening Communities) 🤝

𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒉𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒂 𝑨𝒍𝒅𝒂𝒘! 𝑴𝒂𝒃𝒖𝒉𝒂𝒚!

The YMCA-Albay enthusiastically welcomed 23 Taiwanese campers to the Albay YMCA Community Hub for the 10-day Albay-Taichung YMCA Workcamp (July 22–31, 2025). This incredible initiative aims to foster cultural exchange, create a supportive environment for community development, empower youth, and build lasting camaraderie. It's hard to believe a week has already flown by, filled with core memories for everyone involved!

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟖: 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠—𝐓𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐀!

Day 8, July 28, 2025, was packed with fun and creativity! Campers grabbed brushes, paints, and vibrant colors to adorn the walls of the Bukluran sa Kabuhayan Center with drawings, leaving behind a shared artistic memory. The day became even more remarkable as they bid heartfelt goodbyes to their foster families and the Filipino kids who had shown them such warmth and happiness. But the celebrations didn't end there! A lively homestay party followed, complete with a refreshing swim in the YMCA-Albay pool. To top it all off, the day concluded with a cozy campfire and barbeque party, featuring delightful performances from both the Taiwanese campers and the Filipino volunteers.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟗: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐍𝐚!

On Day 9, July 29, 2025, the Taiwanese campers and YMCA-Albay team were greeted with grandeur at Legazpi City National High School (LCNHS). The LCNHS students' talent and vibrant personalities captivated the campers, leading to an enjoyable session of traditional Filipino games. In return, the Taiwanese campers proudly shared their culture by teaching various Taiwanese songs, games, and even calligraphy. The Technical and Vocational Livelihood (TVL) students at LCNHS prepared a delicious and healthy lunch, which everyone shared, stuffing their stomachs with good food and good company.

Afterward, the group journeyed to Museo de Legazpi, where they delved into the rich history of Legazpi Province and admired its beautiful paintings. Their cultural immersion continued with a special meeting with the Mayor of Legazpi, Hon. Hisham B. Ismail. The adventure then moved outdoors as they experienced a mini-hike through the Mayon Black Lava. The day concluded with happy memories as they gathered at Sawangan Park for dinner, before heading back to the YMCA-Albay for more fun in the swimming pool.

D-5 YMCA Albay - Taichung, Taiwan Work Camp!

Started the day Magrove Planting at Cagbacongan, Manito, Albay, which happened to be the World Mangrove day! A hundred propagules were planted by our Taiwanese campers and YMCA Albay volunteers.

In the afternoon, the group was immersed in the community of Bukluran sa Kabuhayan in Brgy. Malobago, Anislag, Albay, and created their own handicraft. The day ended with campers going to their host families for the homestay.

‎ 🎉 𝘼𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙙𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙟𝙖𝙧! 🇹🇼 🇵🇭

‎On the 4th day of the Taiwanese campers' stay, the day was filled with smiles, sweat, laughter, and delicious meals from both Taiwanese and Filipino cuisine. It started productively with the completion of the garden and gazebo construction at the YMCA Albay.
‎
‎The Taiwanese campers also showcased their culinary culture, and they were warmly welcomed by the residents of Barangay Bagacay, Legazpi City, in the afternoon. During their community outreach program at the barangay's covered court, they taught the children different arts and crafts styles, distributed school supplies, played games facilitated by the volunteers, and served nutritious snacks.

‎The team also visited Bichara's Farm, explored the entire place, and later enjoyed strolling around the mall, trying out restaurants, and indulging in the local flavors and experiences.

‎Just like Boba pearls from Taiwan and Kakanin from the Philippines, the bonds between Taiwanese and Filipinos continue to stick as time passes. 💙🤍❤

𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡, 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡! 👆🏻💯

The fifth day of the camp was filled with productivity when our campers went to Manito, Albay, to plant 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴 in commemoration of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲.

A whole new experience unfolded as they tried using public transportation like tricycle and had a long travel in jeepneys. In the afternoon, another new experience awaited as they tried making the 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐤𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐧—𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘪 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴—in 𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧 in Anislag, Daraga, Albay. Before the day ended, they were welcomed by their host families and got the chance to tour around the streets of Bukluran. 🪭✨

𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙁𝙖𝙢-𝘿𝙖𝙮! ❤️‍🩹

A productive week must always be rewarded. On their sixth day, they spent the day living like Filipino locals as their host "mamas" took them around the area.

They went to Daraga Church in the morning, and after the mass, the campers were divided into different activities prepared by their families. 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐬 were some of the activities they did, while others went to places like 𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬, 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬. 𝘼𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧. 🤍

These experiences are some of the highlights that await our energetic campers on a ride they'll surely remember. ✨💘

𝗠𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆!

The YMCA-Albay continues to bond with 23 Taiwanese Campers at the Albay YMCA Community Hub for the Albay-Taichung YMCA 10-Day Workcamp (July 22–31, 2025). This workcamp aims to promote cultural exchange, create a supportive environment for community development, empower the youth, and build camaraderie.

On July 24, 2025 (Day 3), the YMCA Albay Youth Volunteers along with the Taiwanese Campers collaborated on two construction projects for the Albay YMCA pool area. With strong initiative and efficient teamwork, the group was able to complete most of the construction work before they headed to Sawangan Park and Legazpi Boulevard for a tour of the city. The campers also tried a variety of Filipino street foods available in the area.

Truly, it was another day with another opportunity for camaraderie, collaboration, and collective empowerment with our advocacy-driven youths. When the Y fervor burns, it encourages, binds, drives action, and shares inspiration. So, stay tuned for more Albay-Taichung YMCA Workcamp updates, fellow Y'ers!

As we celebrate 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆, our campers from Taichung took action by planting 100 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴 to support our environmental campaign.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩?

Mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coasts by stabilizing shorelines and preventing erosion— acting as natural barriers against storm surges and tsunamis. They also help mitigate flooding by absorbing excess water during heavy rainfall, making them a vital defense system for coastal communities, keeping them safe from damage and flooding.

May this initiative by our youth campers instill a sense of hope in our eco-leaders, envisioning a future where our environment is meticulously preserved. ❤️‍🩹

The YMCA Albay - Taichung, Taiwan Work Camp participants and volunteers planted one hundred mangrove propagules in Cagbacongan, Manito, Albay, on July 26, 2025, during World Mangrove Day.

Join us in a movement that’s more than just planting trees—it’s about growing hope, resilience, and life for generations to come. Mangroves aren’t just coastal trees; they’re nature’s guardians against erosion, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
