🌿 EXHIBITION OPENING | Islands of Memory: Flora and Fauna

The Legazpi City Creative Industry Development Council proudly supports the opening of
Islands of Memory: Flora and Fauna — a collaborative exhibition shaped by two members Albay Arts Foundation, Rome Candaza and Maya Muñoz.

⏳ Exhibit Duration: 3 weeks

Held in celebration of the 10th year of the Albay Biosphere Reserve, the exhibition brings together artists, photographers, writers, and creatives whose works emerge from intimate encounters with nature.

“Memory is not a single landscape. It is an archipelago.”

Through photography, watercolor, poetry, and painting, each work becomes an “island”—a fragment of memory shaped by lived experience. Some are vivid, others fading, yet all continue to form our connection to the natural world.

Rooted in Albay’s landscapes—its forests, seas, and the presence of Mayon Volcano—the exhibition reflects on how nature lives within memory, identity, and culture.

As we mark a decade since Albay’s recognition as a biosphere reserve, Islands of Memory invites us to see memory itself as ecological—growing, shifting, and deeply intertwined with place.

🎨✨ Pista ng Sining sa Legazpi Wraps Up with a Bang! ✨🎨

We proudly closed with an energetic and inspiring finale through Kurit Kaaraman: Kartooning Workshop led by renowned cartoonist Alfonso Miguel Baleda yesterday.

Held at SM City Legazpi, the workshop gathered 60 enthusiastic participants—kids and teens eager to learn the art of cartooning. The event center was filled with creativity, laughter, and imagination as young artists discovered how simple lines can tell powerful stories.

Seeing our young Legazpeños sketch, create, and express themselves reminds us why spaces for arts, creativity, and cultural learning are so important in our city.

From workshops, film screenings, art markets, and community gatherings throughout the month, Pista ng Sining sa Legazpi has truly shown the vibrant spirit of our creative community.

And this is just the beginning. 👀

Kids and their parents have gathered together at the 3rd Level, The Event Center at SM City Legazpi for Kurit Kaaraman, a Cartooning Workshop featuring Al Baleda, a Bicolano artist and cartoonist. This activity seeks to espouse the spirit of the National Arts Month celebration and provide an immersive experience to explore young people's affinity to arts.

🎶✨ Harmony at Mamma Rose! | KANTURA Songwriting Workshop ✨🎶

The Albay Arts Foundation is still humming with the beautiful melodies born from KANTURA: A Songwriting Workshop—a gathering that celebrated creativity, language, and the vibrant music scene of Bicol.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mamma Rose Hotel for their generous support and warm hospitality. By opening their doors to our local creatives, they continue to prove that they are true champions of the arts in Albay. Thank you for giving our songwriters a welcoming space to learn, collaborate, and create. 💛

What made the afternoon special?

🎤 The Talent
22 aspiring songwriters gathered for a day of mentorship, collaboration, and creative exploration.

🎼 The Result
Participants successfully composed original songs in the Bicol language, bringing our mother tongue to life through music and storytelling.

🌱 The Vision
Led by Joper John Ofrasio, this workshop was designed as a kickstart for future production and dissemination of original Bicolano songs—planting the seeds for the next generation of local hits.

This meaningful activity is part of Pista ng Sining sa Legazpi, celebrating National Arts Month together with the City Government of Legazpi and the Legazpi Creative Council.

The melodies of Legazpi are officially finding their voice! 🎸✍️

We just wrapped up KANTURA: A Songwriting Workshop, where 22 aspiring local songwriters spent an inspired afternoon diving deep into the art of lyrical storytelling and mentorship. From blank pages to beautiful Bicolano compositions, these talented participants worked in groups to craft original songs in our native tongue!

This initiative, spearheaded by Joper John Ofrasio (Performance Arts Representative of the Legazpi Creative Council) in partnership with Albay Arts Foundation , aims to do more than just teach—it’s the spark for a full cycle of creation, professional production, and wider dissemination of our local sound.

This event is a proud highlight of Pista ng Sining sa Legazpi, celebrating National Arts Month! 🎨🎶

Set in Tabaco, Albay in the 1980s, a young boy suddenly stops watching films—the very thing he once loved most. Haunted by guilt over a broken promise to his grandmother, he must confront memories that shaped his childhood.

A historical short film about the bravery of a local hero from Bacacay, Albay who stood against Moro pirate raids that once threatened the shores of Bicol—his courage becoming a symbol of protection for his community.

Inspired by a Bicol myth, fishermen once lived in harmony with the sea god Magnindan—until two greedy strangers ignored sacred warnings. Their arrogance awakens the wrath of the sea, leaving behind a legend and two mysterious stones marking where twilight sealed their fate.

In a town where people believe new businesses are doomed to fail, Chichay helps her father keep their small eatery alive. When an unexpected moment goes viral, hope suddenly arrives.

Two men stranded on a remote road searching for help stumble upon something far more terrifying—turning their night into a desperate fight for survival against a ruthless killer.
