COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Empowering the youth through financial literacy 💙

As part of Rotary’s Area of Focus: “Community and Economic Development”, the Rotary Club of Mactan recently hosted a transformative Financial Literacy talk for our ALS learners on March 18, 2026 held at RC Mactan Building.
Led by our club’s TRF Chairman and PNB Pajo Branch Manager, Glenn Ebusejo, the PNB team introduced the students to the essentials of basic banking, the discipline of saving, and long-term financial responsibility.
The highlight? The learners were given the opportunity to open their very own Free PNB Debit Mastercard Savings Accounts! By giving them access to digital banking, we aren't just teaching them about money—we are giving them a head start toward a more secure and tech-ready future.

Banana and Carrot Cake Making – Livelihood and Skills Training
LGU Brgy. Ibo, Lapu lapu City and Rotary Club of Mactan ALS

March 24, 2026, to culminate Women’s Month 2026, the Rotary Club of Mactan, in partnership with LGU Brgy. Ibo and the Alternative Learning System (ALS), hosted a 'Banana and Carrot Cake Making' Livelihood & Skills Training! 🍌🥕

We were incredibly honored to have Mr. Christian Illustrisimo as our lead trainer. As a proud ALS Passer who now serves as a Cakes & Party Chef at Shangri-La Mactan, Christian is living proof of how skills training can transform lives.

The participants didn’t just learn recipes; they gained hands-on experience in:
✅ Step-by-step cake crafting
✅ Ingredient mastery
✅ Basic business practices for economic independence

RC Mactan Pres. Maita Manglapus, PP Angelisa Ceballos, and Kap. Rose Macasaol (along with Ms. Badet P. Virtucio and the Brgy. Council) renewed their commitment to women's empowerment. Kudos also to ALS Para Teacher Odesa Casilagan for sharing her invaluable skills! 👏

ROTARY FAMILY DAY 2026
They say time is valuable, but the bonds we form in Rotary are truly priceless.
Last March 1, the Rotary Club of Mactan led by Past President Vicky Huseby, PE Earl Tolentino, Directors Maricris Piczon, Glenn Ebusejo, Michael Angelo de Leon, with newly inducted Rotarians Mike Tengelen and Kenneth Alvin Koons and volunteers, joined the District 3860 Rotary Family Day at the MCWD Family Park. It was the perfect way to wrap up a week-long celebration of service and community. Our team from the Rotary Club of Mactan headed to the MCWD Family Park in Cebu City last March 1 to join the grand culmination of Rotary Week: The 2026 Rotary Family Day!
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Cebu West, this year’s theme, 'A Valuable Time, a Priceless Bond,' truly came to life. Our members and volunteers dove into the activities, shared plenty of laughs, and even took home some prizes!
Huge thanks to District 3860 and Rotary Week Chairman PAG Vicente Vosotros and RC Cebu West President Andrew Jimenez for organizing such a memorable celebration of fellowship. Proud to be part of this big, vibrant Rotary family!

"Empowering the Hands that Rock the Cradle: Rotary Club of Mactan Celebrates Women’s Month"

In a powerful tribute to Philippine National Women’s Month, the Rotary Club of Mactan launched a comprehensive community outreach centered on maternal health and empowerment. The celebration kicked off with a vital donation of medical supplies to Christy’s Birthing Home, from our generous partner Eres Automotive, Inc. reinforcing the club’s commitment to safe motherhood.

The heart of the event took place at Saint Arnold Janssen Ville in Brgy. Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, where over 300 mothers gathered for a "Maternal Health Awareness Talk." Led by our Community Service Director Fredericka Huseby and Maternal and Childcare Director Christy Paquibot, the session went beyond medical advice; it served as a masterclass in building resilient families. Discussions focused on responsible parenthood, family planning, and reproductive health, echoing the 2026 national theme of reclaiming the leadership roles of women in the community.

Secretary Nominee, Michael Angelo de Leon, RN, and some volunteers rendered services such as BP and blood sugar tests.

While the mothers engaged in the health forum, Rotarians ensured a day of joy for the younger generation. As the women focused on empowerment, their children were treated to games and activities, each receiving a brand-new pair of slippers to symbolize a bright step toward the future. Thanks to Director Eli Barbo for this initiative.

The day was filled with more than just learning. Thanks to the generosity of PP Manny Ramirez, Flow Eight Management Corporation, Daily Laundry, JMC Travel and Tours, and Division Datu, participants enjoyed games, vitamins, tokens, and a shared lunch, turning the educational event into a true community celebration. By equipping mothers with knowledge and children with care, the Rotary Club of Mactan continues to honor the strength and spirit of the Filipina.

8,000 Seedlings, 300 Volunteers, One Greener Future!

Today, March 1, 2026, was a landmark day for coastal conservation in Cebu! Close to 300 volunteers joined forces at the Cebu South Properties Hill Tower access road for the 2nd phase of the Rotary District 3860 Mangrove Planting.

In a beautiful display of "Service Above Self," volunteers from the University of San Carlos, PCGA, and various Cebu City LGU departments—including the Parks and Playgrounds Commission, CCDRMO, and CCenro—gathered to plant 8,000 mangrove seedlings and propagules.

This initiative directly supports the Cebu City Mayor’s ambitious goal of planting 257,000 trees, ensuring our city remains resilient and green.

Why Mangroves? Beyond their beauty, these trees act as our first line of defense—protecting our coastal communities from storm surges, erosion, and tsunamis. They are nature’s most cost-effective barrier.

We thank our District Community Service Chair Joslyn Canon, RC Mactan President-Elect Earl, RcMactan Community Service chairman Fredericka Huseby, and Rotary Week Chair PAG Vicente Vosotros.

RC Mactan ALS and Volunteers prepared and distributed hot meals.

Special thanks to Comm. Jolly Pe, John Joefrrey Dabatos, Rtn. Maria Maderia, PP Jon Mercado.

Proud to be part of a community that takes action!
