The Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS) – Northwestern University Chapter proudly joined the HRN Awareness Campaign Planning and Coordination Meeting with A-PAD Philippines, A-PAD Volunteers, and Ilocos HRN on August 15, 2026.

The meeting served as an avenue for meaningful collaboration, planning, and coordination toward strengthening Humanitarian Response Network (HRN) awareness and building more prepared, resilient, and disaster-ready communities.

As future medical laboratory professionals, PHISMETS recognizes the importance of extending our role beyond the laboratory actively participating in initiatives that promote community preparedness, humanitarian action, and service.

The Medical Technology Department conducted its Department Orientation , bringing together students and their parents to discuss the department’s policies, rules, guidelines, academic expectations, and important matters that every student must be aware of throughout their journey.

More than just an orientation, the gathering served as a bridge between the department, students, and parents ensuring that everyone is informed and understands the standards and responsibilities that come with being part of the Medical Technology program.

Here’s to a meaningful and successful academic journey, future RMTs! May we continue to uphold excellence, professionalism, and integrity inside and outside the laboratory.

Fellow Katusok your safety comes first! In line with the advisory from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte,Northwestern University will shift to asynchronous classes tomorrow, August 10, 2026, due to the heavy rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

No face-to-face classes tomorrow!
Instead, Katusok are encouraged to:

Knowledge, skills, and proper laboratory practice come together in the Seminar-Workshop on Authorized Specimen Collector (ASC) an important training that emphasizes the proper collection, handling, identification, and transport of patient specimens.

In the clinical laboratory, specimen collection is the first and one of the most critical steps in the testing process.A properly collected specimen helps ensure accurate and reliable laboratory results, while errors in patient identification, collection technique, labeling, storage, or transportation can compromise specimen integrity and ultimately affect patient care.

Through this 2 Day seminar-workshop, participants gain valuable knowledge on proper specimen collection procedures, infection prevention and control, biosafety, patient identification, specimen handling, and quality assurance,skills that contribute to the accuracy and reliability of laboratory testing.
