โFor years, we have been asking the same question: How do we convince the youth to choose agriculture?

โHow do we make farming exciting again? How do we make fishing, food production, and rural life feel like something worth pursuing in a generation that is constantly being told to dream bigger, go somewhere else, and find a โbetterโ future?
โ
โBut perhaps, we have been asking the wrong question.
โ
โMaybe the question is not โHow do we convince the youth to enter agriculture?โ but โHow do we make agriculture a future that the youth can proudly belong to?โ
โ
โBecause the reality is right in front of us. Our farmers and fisherfolk are aging, while youth participation in agriculture remains alarmingly low. The hands that have fed generations are getting older, and somewhere along the way, we allowed the younger generation to believe that agriculture is a dead-end rather than a doorway.
โ
โBut agriculture is not dying.
โ
โ๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐ฎ๐ฌ.
โ
โWaiting for a generation that can see beyond the traditional image of a farmer bent under the heat of the sun. Waiting for young people who can bring technology to the fields, innovation to the market, science to the soil, and fresh ideas to an industry that has always been the backbone of our nation.
โ
โAnd this is where the youth must reclaim our place.
โ
โHindi ibig sabihin na kapag kabataan ka, kailangan mong iwan ang bukid para masabing successful ka. Maybe success is also knowing that you can build something meaningful from the land you came from.
โ
โWe can make agriculture attractiveโnot by pretending that farming is easy, but by showing that it can be innovative, profitable, sustainable, and dignified.
โ
โWe can turn farms into laboratories for innovation. Fishing communities into spaces for technology and sustainable livelihood. Agricultural products into competitive enterprises. We can use social media, digital platforms, research, machinery, and entrepreneurship to tell a new story about agriculture.
โ
โBecause the youth are not merely the future of agriculture.
โ
โ๐๐ ๐๐๐ง ๐๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐จ๐๐๐ฒ.

โAnd in this mission, the 4-H Club of the Philippines continues to remind us that leadership does not always begin in a classroom. Sometimes, it begins in a farm. Sometimes, it begins with planting a seed. Sometimes, it begins with a young person simply saying, โI want to help.โ
โ
โWith our four pillarsโHead, Heart, Hands, and Healthโ4-H teaches us that youth development is not only about gaining knowledge. It is about knowing what to do with that knowledge, having the heart to serve, lending our hands to the community, and taking care of ourselves and the world we live in.
โ
โFrom creating agricultural initiatives to helping communities, from learning new technologies to serving with humility and compassion, 4-H is more than a youth organization.
โ
โ๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐จ ๐ซ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฐ๐๐ญ๐๐ก ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ.

โBecause if agriculture feeds the nation, then someone has to make sure that the hands that feed the nation will never run out.

โAnd yes, the government has a huge role to play.
โ
โWe cannot simply tell young people to love agriculture and leave them without opportunities. Scholarships, trainings, start-up support, access to technology, markets, mentorship, and programs for young farmers and entrepreneurs matter. When we invest in the youth, we are not merely helping individuals build careersโwe are investing in the food security and future of an entire nation.

โThe youth need more than inspiration.
โ
โ๐๐ ๐ง๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐ญ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

โKaya kung may kabataang nangangarap maging engineer, economist, entrepreneur, scientist, teacher, lawyer, or leaderโlet us remind them that they can be all those things and still choose agriculture.

โBecause agriculture needs economists who understand the farmer's struggle.
โIt needs entrepreneurs who can turn harvests into businesses.
โIt needs scientists who can make farming smarter.
โIt needs engineers who can build better systems.
โIt needs communicators who can tell the stories of our farmers.
โAnd most importantly, it needs young people who are willing to care.
โ
โMaybe reclaiming our place in agriculture does not mean going backward.
โ
โIt means moving forwardโwhile bringing the soil with us.
โ
โThe future of agriculture should not be something that we inherit and eventually abandon. It should be something that we nurture, improve, and proudly pass on to the generation after us.
โ
โSo to every young person who has ever felt that agriculture was โnot for themโโmaybe it is time to look again.
โ
โLook at the farmer who wakes up before the sun.
โLook at the fisherfolk who goes home hoping the sea was generous today.
โLook at the food on your table and ask yourself: Who made this possible?
โ
โAnd then ask the bigger question:

โโWhat will I do to make sure this continues?โ
โ
โBecause hindi lang tayo kabataan.
โ
โTayo ang may hawak ng susunod na kabanata.
โ
โThe torch is slowly being passed to us. And when it reaches our hands, may we have the courage not only to carry itโbut to make it brighter.
โ
โLet us innovate.
โLet us transform.
โLet us lead.
โLet us serve.

โLet us make agriculture something the youth don't have to be convinced to love, but something they will proudly say:

โโKasama ako rito. May lugar ako rito. At may ambag ako rito.โ

โBecause agriculture is not merely about planting seeds.

โIt is about planting hopeโand making sure that our generation has the courage to see it grow.

โHindi lang tayo kabataan lang. Tayo ang kinabukasan na kumikilos ngayon.
