STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF JUAN PONCE ENRILE

Martial Law, one of the bloodiest chapters in our country's history, would not have been possible without Juan Ponce Enrile.

Enrile was the architect of Proclamation 1081 and the willing actor to Ferdinand Marcos Sr's staged ambush on September 22, 1972 to justify the latter's imposition of martial rule.

Enrile waged murderous wars that decimated tens of thousands of Moro people in Mindanao and was behind the obnoxious deforestation across Samar and Mindanao's forest covers, with the relentless operations of his logging corporations.

Enrile colluded with another Marcos crony, the late Danding Cojuangco, in stealing billions of pesos in coconut levy funds from hapless coconut farmers in Quezon.

Before Enrile betrayed Marcos Sr. in 1986, he was — first and foremost — a key and indispensable actor in the construction, imposition, and consolidation of Marcos Sr.'s brutal dictatorship.

The blood of tens of thousands of Martial Law victims are on Enrile's hands, too.

Enrile eventually participated in the historical whitewashing about the Marcos Sr. dictatorship. Who would forget his téte-a-téte with Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2018, during which he claimed that "no one" was arrested or killed for opposing the dictatorship? Who would forget his denial in 2021 that he signed the 1982 Enrile-Soto accord, which was an obvious lie?

We will remember Enrile's long list of crimes. We will mourn for Enrile's victims, from the killing fields of Samar to the blood-soaked provinces of Bangsamoro.

His legacy of murder and corruption as the architect of Martial Law will forever haunt his memory. The Filipino people will not let him rest in peace. His death is just the beginning of his judgment. #

ANGAT BAYANIHAN IN ACTION

In Cebu, we were able to deliver 26,816 food packs, 9,061 hot meals, 57,357 liters of water, and 14,566 hygiene kits, 2,105 shelter kits to 26 barangays in 7 towns affected by the strong earthquake in the northern part of the province.

All of this was made possible through the efforts of 2,740 volunteers from Angat Cebu BPO, Angat Liloan, and the Cebu Youth Artists Society for Good Governance—our partners in the Angat Bayanihan Volunteer Network who tirelessly work for those in need.

A total of ₱14,675,820 worth of humanitarian assistance was mobilized through the Angat Bayanihan Volunteer Network (ABVN) organizations.

𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗶’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

In her first 100 days in office, Mayor Leni Robredo has delivered significant progress in her administration’s housing initiatives, highlighted by the distribution of Transfer Certificates of Title (TCTs) to 431 beneficiaries under the city’s Kaantabay sa Kauswagan program.

The TCTs, handed over to the first batch of beneficiaries, mark a significant step in the city government’s commitment to secure land tenure for informal settlers through its socialized housing efforts. The Kaantabay sa Kauswagan (Partners in Development), aims to empower low-income families by granting them legal ownership of the lots they occupy.

“This is not just about land ownership—it’s about dignity, stability, and opportunity,” Mayor Robredo said. “Once the lot is fully paid, the beneficiary must receive his or her TCT without delay.”

According to the Housing and Settlements Development Office (HSDO), preparations are already underway for the second batch of title releases, expected to take place in December 2025, with an even larger number of recipients anticipated.
The HSDO is working under Mayor Robredo’s directive to fast-track the release of TCTs to qualified beneficiaries immediately upon the completion of their payment obligations to the city government.

In addition to the TCT distribution, the city is also taking strides toward long-term housing security by initiating the enrolment of urban poor communities into the Community Mortgage Program (CMP)—a national financing scheme that helps legally-organized homeowners’ associations acquire land through affordable loans.

Several homeowners’ associations have already undergone orientation sessions as part of the city’s phased implementation of the CMP. The HSDO is currently processing necessary documentation to move forward with the program. | via Jason B. Neola
