UP Cebu Lantugi is the official debate society and varsity of the University of the Philippines Cebu.

Since its establishment in 2002, Lantugi continues to educate and develop students in the discipline of debate and public speaking with the goal of producing critical speakers, through active participation in debate tournaments and competitions throughout the country and beyond. In line with its thrusts to provide opportunities for students and the wider public to be immersed in public speaking an

d parliamentary debate, Lantugi hosts a number of debate competitions such as Speak UP, the Cebu Intervarsity, and collaborative training with other debate societies and organizations.

UP Cebu Lantugi recognizes Ady Balimbingan for serving as part of the Core Adjudication Panel at the Philippine Debate Open 2026, hosted by the San Beda Debate Society in partnership with Parliamate, held on May 22–24, 2026 at San Beda University, Mendiola, Manila.

As member of CAP, Ady played a key role in shaping the tournament’s adjudication standards and ensuring high-quality deliberations throughout the competition.

Lantugi commends Ady for her continued excellence and leadership in the national debate circuit.

🏆 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊-𝐓𝐎-𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐔𝐆𝐈 🏆

Fresh off securing two championships just two weeks prior, UP Cebu Lantugi continues its dominant run—this time at Xavier Cup XIII, hosted by Ateneo de Naga University from May 23–24, 2026.

Breaking 2nd into eliminations, the team of Christine Bagazin, Joriz Lowel Baje, and Del Cinco powered through the rounds to emerge as Open Champions of the tournament.

Their individual performances were equally outstanding—Christine Bagazin was named Overall Best Open Speaker, Joriz Lowel Baje earned Finals Best Speaker and placed 7th Best Open Speaker, while Del Cinco also ranked 7th Best Open Speaker.

On the adjudication front, Cian Jacob Royo served as a panelist in the Open Semifinals, while Gasa Mutya was part of the Core Adjudication Panel, contributing to the tournament’s overall direction and standards.

Another championship run, another testament to Lantugi’s consistency at the highest level.

🏆 𝟐 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐘 🏆

While CAPSO 2026 was ongoing, UP Cebu Lantugi Debate Society secured another major victory at the Harvest Fundraising Open 2026, hosted by Kamalig from May 9–10, 2026.

Joriz Lowel Baje, Christine Bagazin, and Romel Tala delivered a championship-winning performance, emerging as Open Grand Champions after breaking 5th into the elimination rounds.

Individually, the team also excelled in speaker rankings—Christine Bagazin was named 2nd Best Open Speaker, while Joriz Lowel Baje placed 5th Best Open Speaker.

A remarkable display of depth and excellence, with Lantugi clinching titles across simultaneous tournaments.

🏆 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐀 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐒𝐀𝐘, 𝐌𝐀𝐇𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐘 🏆
From May 8–10, 2026, the Cebu Association of Political Science Organizations (CAPSO), hosted by the University of San Carlos, brought together the region’s top communicators and debaters—and UP Cebu Lantugi Debate Society delivered a standout performance across multiple events.

In the debate category, Lantugi secured the Championship as the 1st Breaking Team, led by Lief Fiel, who was recognized as Overall Best Speaker and Finals Best Speaker. Cian Jacob Royo (4th Best Speaker) and Del Cinco (Overall Best Speaker) completed the champion team’s stellar run.

Another Lantugi team advanced to the Semifinals as the 3rd Breaking Team and the 2nd Runner-Up, with Ysabelle Fabrero (5th Best Speaker), Quiana Tolentino, and Allan Jumuad showcasing strong performances throughout the tournament.

Beyond debate, Lantugi members also excelled in other categories—Cian Jacob Royo placed 2nd Runner-Up in Extemporaneous Speaking, while Kathlyn Montero earned 2nd Runner-Up in Spoken Poetry.

Lantugi’s presence extended behind the scenes as well. Jan Endrina served as Tournament Director and tab personnel, alongside Co-TDs Gasa Mutya and Adrian Magno. Kathlyn Montero, Reaniel Cañete, and Crispin Caballero contributed as Invited Adjudicators, while Romel Tala, Christine Bagazin, and Adrian Magno took part as Motion Contributors.

A true showcase of Lantugi excellence across competition, adjudication, and leadership.

We are grateful to share that Adrian was successfully given blood last night. We sincerely thank everyone who immediately extended help, support, and prayers during the urgent situation.

At the moment, we are still looking for possible O+ blood donors who may immediately come forward in case another transfusion or platelet extraction becomes necessary. If anyone in Cebu is willing and eligible to donate, we would greatly appreciate your help.

If you’re willing to donate, here are the basic requirements:
• 18–60 years old
• At least 50 kg
• Blood type O+
• In good health (no fever/cough)
• No recent tattoos/piercings (6–12 months)
• No alcohol in the last 24 hours
• At least 6 hours of sleep
• Bring a valid ID
• For females: not pregnant / subject to screening policies

Adrian Magno, a member of Lantugi, is currently admitted at Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu as he continues to fight dengue.

His condition requires urgent and ongoing medical care, including platelet transfusions, and his family is now facing significant financial strain. We are humbly asking for any amount of support to help ease the burden of his treatment.

UP Cebu Lantugi Debate Society celebrates Gasa Mutya for her outstanding adjudication performance at Asian Parliamentary 2026, hosted by Parliamate from May 2–3, 2026.

Gasa was recognized as the 3rd Best Judge of the tournament and served as a panelist in the Open Grand Finals—highlighting both her consistency throughout the rounds.

Lantugi commends Gasa for continuing to raise the organization’s standard of excellence in the debate circuit.
