With the true spirit of scouting, the young scouts of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) from Benguet State University-School Laboratory Site (BSU-SLS) successfully concluded their BSP Backyard Camping held from September 12 to 14 at the BSU-SLS campus.
The three-day event opened with an Investiture Ceremony welcoming new scouts into the organization. Mr. John P. Botengan Jr., a respected senior scout and retired principal of SLS, led the ceremony inspiring the participants with his decades of experience and dedication to scouting.
On the second day, both junior and senior scouts showcased dedication and teamwork. The morning featured a campus clean-up drive highlighting the scoutsโ commitment to service and environmental responsibility. Throughout the day, the scouts engaged in creative collaboration by composing and performing their respective crewsโ yells, cheers, and songs, fostering unity and school spirit.
A key highlight of the camp was the solemn โHuling Parangal sa Watawatโ (Burning of the Flags). Sir Francis Likingan, the guest speaker, educated the scouts on the proper procedures and meaning behind the ceremonial disposal of worn-out flags.
The activity served as a meaningful lesson on patriotism and respect for national symbols. The flags used during the ceremony came from various schools in Bakun.
The camp concluded with a recognition ceremony. Senior Scouts Livnie Arwen Faroden, Francys Sucdad, and Sondel Easan Paayas led the awarding of ribbons and goodies to each crew, commending the scouts for their obedience, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the camp.
After the event, SLS-BSP Sub-advisor Sir Johnry Semin commented, โThe BSU-SLS BSP welcomes the new members of our scouting family who have just committed themselves to the Scout Oath and Law. In doing so, theyโve promised to live with integrity, serve others, and fulfill their duty to God and country. May these values guide them both as scouts and as citizens.โ
