The Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC) is a multi -sectoral organization of the academe, government planning bodies, hospital institutions, and private sectors which functions as the regional partner agency of the PCHRD, which serves as a clearing house for all health - related researches. It is a structure created to link together health researchers and instit

utions to facilitate health research activities attuned to regional health needs. Through the Consortium, research and development efforts of identified sectors are properly delineated, effectively coordinated, monitored/evaluated, processed and consolidated for better dissemination/utilization, resulting to greater promotion, restoration, and maintenance of health.

The Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC) successfully concluded its three-day In-House Basic Research Ethics Training (InBRET) held from May 25 to 27, 2026. The intensive program was hosted by Baguio Central University (BCU), headed by Dr. Margarita Cecilda B. Rillera, who graciously welcomed the participants to the institution.

The training was spearheaded through the collaborative efforts of the CRHRDC Capacity Building Committee and the Research Ethics Committee (REC). This partnership aimed to enhance the capacity of member institutions to establish and manage their own Institutional Research Ethics Committees (IRECs), ensuring that regional health research involving human participants meets the highest ethical standards.

By empowering institutions to maintain functional IRECs, this training contributes to a robust ethical review system across the Cordillera region. As emphasized by Consortium Director Maria Rowena C. Madarang in her opening message, the ultimate goal is to promote high-quality, ethically approved research that serves the needs of society while safeguarding the dignity and rights of all participants.

Expert-Led Competency Building The program featured a distinguished roster of PHREB recognized lecturers in CAR and expert facilitators who guided 40 participants through a competency-based framework.
