The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in partnership with the Local Government Unit of La Trinidad conducted the Pre-Registration Seminar (PRS) for the Barangay Desk Officers of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) on February 04, 2026 at the Senior Citizen Building of the municipality.
The BSU Bachelor of Arts in Communication interns assigned at the Municipal Coop Office facilitated the activity.
The seminar is a required prerequisite for associations seeking to formally transition from associations into a registered cooperative and it aimed to provide basic education and training for the incoming members of the new cooperative.
The Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008 (Republic Act No. 9520) governs the registration, organization, and operation of cooperatives to promote self-reliance and social justice. It defines cooperative as an autonomous association of persons joined voluntarily to meet common economic, social, and cultural needs through equitable capital contributions.
Ms. Christine L. Bulalin, Cooperative Development Specialist II from the Cooperative Development Authority โ Cordillera Administrative Region Extension, who handles pre-registration seminars in Benguet, served as the speaker. She shared invaluable insights and knowledge about cooperatives, giving VAWC members a clear understanding of what it means to be part of a cooperative.
Through the seminar, the VAWC officers shared a goal and deepened their dedication in establishing a cooperative in La Trinidad, Benguet. They are expected to gain more knowledge in the upcoming seminars, aiming to guide them create a cooperative to serve the community with a common purpose.
