The online accreditation survey visit for the four degree programs of Benguet State University concluded with a closing meeting. The evaluation was conducted by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

The three-day survey visit evaluated the degree programs, including the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education and the Master of Science in Animal Science for the fourth survey-second cycle. The MA in English Language Studies was assessed during the fourth survey visit, while the BS in Hospitality Management was evaluated during the third survey-phase 2. These programs were evaluated in areas of research, performance of graduates, community service, international linkages and consortia, and well-developed planning process.

During the program, AACCUP Team Overall Coordinator Carlo F. Vadil presented the accreditorsโ€™ impressions on the assessed programs, highlighting the strengths and opportunities for improvement. He thanked the BSU officials and the Local Task Force for their cooperation throughout the accreditation process.

Vadil encouraged everyone to view the accreditation activity as an inspiration and an opportunity for growth, regardless of the outcome, while remaining committed to pursuing quality and excellence in the Universityโ€™s programs and services. He also looked forward to collaborating with the University through the sharing of experience-based practices.

VP for Business Affairs Josel M. Florentin, representing BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, expressed gratitude to the accreditors for evaluating the Universityโ€™s degree programs, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing the Local Task Forceโ€™s efforts.

โ€œLet this not be the end of striving for excellence, but simply a checkpoint. We commit not because we are told to do, but because we owe it to our students who walk through our gates hoping for quality education, and to every scientist and dreamer this institution continues to shield,โ€ he stressed.

Following the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the accreditors, College of Human Ecology Dean Jao-jao A. Somyden delivered her closing remarks, acknowledging the collective efforts, dedication, and perseverance of the BSU Local Task Force that made the accreditation a success. She also emphasized that accreditation is a shared responsibility to uphold standards for academic and operational integrity.

โ€œWith perseverance and teamwork, we turn challenges into opportunities for growth,โ€ she said.//EBawayan

Months of preparation boiled down to three days of rigorous evaluation, verification and validation of documents by our esteemed accreditors.

The kaba was real every time the group chat rang! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ But as the Local Task Force, we stood as one team with a single goal.

Now, we hold our breath and hope for a successful, passing verdict. ๐Ÿ™โœจ

Hospitality Labor Shortage in the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿจ

The Philippine hospitality industry continues to grow, but one major challenge remainsโ€”the shortage of skilled workers. Many Filipino hospitality professionals and graduates choose to work abroad in search of better-paying opportunities, stronger benefits, and greater career growth. While this can provide better opportunities for workers and their families, it also creates staffing challenges for hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses in the country.

As more accommodation establishments and tourism businesses expand, the demand for qualified employees also increases. A shortage of workers can result in heavier workloads for existing staff, difficulties in recruitment and retention, increased training costs, and possible challenges in maintaining consistent service quality. Since hospitality relies heavily on people and customer service, having enough trained and motivated employees is essential to the industry's success.

Addressing this issue requires more than simply hiring additional workers. Hospitality businesses can improve employee retention by offering competitive compensation, better working conditions, career development opportunities, continuous training, and clearer paths for promotion. Stronger partnerships between schools and industry employers can also help prepare students for real workplace demands and encourage more graduates to build their careers locally.

The hospitality industry is not only about destinations, hotels, and restaurantsโ€”it is also about the people who make every guest experience possible. Supporting and retaining Filipino hospitality workers is an important step toward building a stronger and more sustainable tourism industry.
