​World Tiger Day (July 29) celebrates one of nature's greatest creations, and here is a fun fact: just like human fingerprints, every single tiger has a completely unique pattern of stripes. Even the skin underneath bears the exact same unique pattern! 🐅

A century ago, 100,000 tigers roamed the wild. After dropping to a dangerous low of 3,200 in 2010, global protection efforts have helped wild populations rebound to around 5,700 today. 🍁

World Hepatitis Day, celebrated globally on July 28, centers on a striking reality about a massive yet quietly operating global health threat.

Around 304 million people live with chronic viral hepatitis (primarily Hepatitis B and C), but an estimated 80% of them have no idea they are infected.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙄𝙩 𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙌𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙡𝙮?

📌 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: Viral hepatitis causes inflammation of the liver, but it often produces zero noticeable symptoms for decades while steadily damaging liver tissue.

📌 𝑺𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔: Left untreated, chronic Hepatitis B and C cause over 1.3 million deaths per year, primarily from liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

📌 𝑺𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑬𝒙𝒊𝒔𝒕: A highly effective vaccine exists to prevent Hepatitis B, and modern antiviral medications can cure over 95% of Hepatitis C cases within a few months of treatment.

Protected areas like national parks, marine sanctuaries, and wildlife reserves cover less than 17% of Earth's land and around 8% of its oceans. Yet, these designated zones host and safeguard nearly 80% of the world’s remaining biodiversity.

𝐁𝐋𝐒 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐋𝐘 𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 🚨🌱

Our newly appointed officers met up for a planning session to get everything lined up for the upcoming semester. We covered a lot of ground to make sure this year runs smoothly and transparently for everyone in the department:

📌 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙨 & 𝙜𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚: VP Internal Shaniah Calalanoy reviewed officer tasks to keep us accountable. VP External Jerich Tacsagon walked us through proposed CBL amendments, passbook updates, and the paperwork needed for our upcoming events.
📌 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙥: Committees are set for Program, Registration, Venue, Technicals, Documentation, Publicity, Ushering, and Logistics. Ma’am Alafag also reminded everyone to bring reusable cups to support our eco-advocacy.
📌 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨 & 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮: Informed consent forms will be given out before any fee collections, detailing where funds will go.
📌 𝙈𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙪𝙥𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 & 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙨: We are addressing last year’s pending lanyard and uniform orders, and refunds will be processed for eligible students. For new merch like lanyards, scrub suits, and nameplates, keep an eye out for a Google Form to vote on designs. First-years will also lead the new lanyard concepts.
📌 𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨: We are opening talent GCs for Singing, Dancing, Arts & Crafts, and Emceeing so students can share their skills.
📌 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞-𝙇𝙞𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 & 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙: Officers started a cleanup drive for the Mini-Library, which we will share with CNS SG. An updated Org Chart bulletin board is also being prepared.
