Balabag MVT Falls Short in Tournament Opener Against La Granja

The Balabag Men’s Volleyball Team (MVT) opened their campaign in the Inter-Barangay Volleyball Tournament with a tough loss against the La Granja MVT. In a highly anticipated matchup, Balabag fought hard but eventually fell in straight sets, marking their first setback of the competition.

From the first serve, La Granja showcased their composure and consistency, capitalizing on Balabag’s early errors and quickly building momentum. Despite Balabag’s spirited rallies and the crowd’s support, La Granja’s offensive power and solid floor defense proved difficult to break through. The match ended in just two sets, leaving Balabag unable to extend the game to a deciding frame.

Although the result was not in their favor, Balabag’s performance displayed flashes of determination and potential. With the tournament still in its early stages, the team is expected to bounce back stronger in the coming matches as they aim to secure their spot in the next rounds.

The Balabag MVT remains optimistic and is calling on the community to continue supporting them as they regroup and prepare for their next challenge on the court.

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Balabag proudly represented their barangay in the Araw ng Kabataan (ANK) 2025 celebration organized by the SK Federation of La Carlota City and CSWDO, held yesterday at the Evacuation Center.

SK Balabag made a strong mark in the citywide event, bringing home multiple awards across various competitions. Quenzel Regalado emerged as Champion in Spoken Word Poetry, while Eric Michael John Tumbay, Alexa Mae Julian, and JJ Lanada Ambatale secured 2nd Place in the Painting Contest.

Adding to the victories, SK Kagawad Rainier Medes showcased creativity and advocacy through sustainable art, winning the Best Advocacy Award in the Fashion Runway competition with his piece made from recycled materials.

The group also earned consolation prizes in the Larong Panlahi and Retro Dance Competition, proving their versatility and active participation.

The Araw ng Kabataan serves as a platform for the youth of La Carlota City to highlight their talents, creativity, and advocacies, while fostering camaraderie and community spirit among the city’s young leaders.

NEWS | SK BALABAG TOPS SKFA IN WHOLE PROVINCE OF NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (SK with Ideal Functionality) WITH SK UNO AND SK RSB

Barangay Balabag’s Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) continues to prove its excellence in youth leadership and governance after once again emerging as a Topnotcher in the SK with Ideal Functionality Award (SKFA). This recognition highlights the dedication, unity, and passion of the youth leaders of Barangay Balabag, together with the full support of their community.

SK Balabag proudly achieved a 100% functionality score, cementing its place as one of the province’s most outstanding SK Councils. This remarkable milestone was accomplished alongside fellow achievers, SK Uno and SK RSB of La Carlota City, Barangay Zone 4-A, Talisay City, as well as Dos Hermanas, Talisay City. Their collective success reflects the strength and commitment of youth councils in Negros Occidental in fostering community development, youth empowerment, and active civic participation.

This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Barangay Council, spearheaded by Hon. Joel E. Rumbines, Punong Barangay, together with his council who continuously guide and provide resources to ensure the success of SK initiatives. At the forefront of this victory is the leadership of Hon. Jessa B. Antonio, SK Chairperson, whose vision, together with the efforts of the entire SK Council, paved the way for meaningful programs, impactful projects, and engaging activities for the youth.

It is worth noting that Barangay Balabag has consistently proven its capability in youth governance. For three consecutive years, the SK Council has been recognized in the SKFA: first under the leadership of Former SK Chairman Hon. April John Aguinda, and now continued by Chairperson Antonio. This consistency demonstrates not only the council’s commitment but also the enduring participation and support of the youth of Barangay Balabag, whose active involvement in activities, projects, and advocacies greatly contributed to this recognition.

The SK Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to the youth of Barangay Balabag for being the driving force behind every initiative. Their energy, creativity, and enthusiasm make every project possible and meaningful. This milestone is not just a recognition of the SK Council but also a celebration of the entire youth community that continuously proves how much they can achieve when united.
