Earlier today, Commodore Jay Tristan Tarriela, the Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, graced the Students' Forum on the West Philippine Sea as the keynote speaker. The event, organized by the Philippine Information Agency XII, took place at the Mall of Ace Centerpoint in Koronadal City on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Atty. Romeo A. Sustiguer, Jr., Ed.D., also delivered a warm and insightful welcome address, setting the tone for the forum. His remarks emphasized the significance of the discussion and highlighted the vital role of educational institutions in fostering awareness among the youth.
The forum, which saw the active participation of around 200 criminology students from Green Valley College Foundation, Inc., was designed to educate the public, particularly the youth, on the government's efforts to safeguard our national territory. It also sought to deepen awareness of the current situation in the West Philippine Sea, stressing the importance of national sovereignty and maritime security.
"One important contribution of the youth is to be informed. Don't fall into the trap of fake news. Every time something appears in your news feed, if it's misinformation, don't hesitate to comment and debunk the post," Commodore Tarriela emphasized.
This initiative underscores the vital role of the younger generation in understanding and contributing to the national discourse on territorial integrity and patriotism.
