The Mindanao River Basin Management Council (MRBMC), supported by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XII, held its second Environment Committee Meeting on March 21, 2025, at Dream Weavers Hotel, Koronadal City and also via Zoom platform.

This gathering emphasized collective action in addressing environmental concerns within the Mindanao River Basin and featured proposals to mitigate Central Mindanao's flooding challenges.

One significant initiative presented was the use of traditional nature-based solutions such as bamboo dikes to reduce soil erosion and manage flood risks in the Allah River Valley.

The meeting served as a platform for stakeholders to collaborate on sustainable environmental strategies, including adopting ecosystem-based approaches for resilience.

Key resolutions from the meeting included supporting the creation of the Mindanao-Simuay Watershed Management Council and promoting a Ridge to Reef (R2R) approachβ€”a comprehensive framework for managing ecosystems across land and water interfaces.

Participation from various government and non-government agencies underscored the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in protecting the river basin.

DENR officials encouraged continuous engagement and proactive efforts to restore and safeguard the basin, emphasizing the region's dependency on this vital resource.
