This All Soulsโ€™ Day, we pause to remember the souls of our loved ones who have journeyed ahead of us. Though they may no longer be with us in presence, their love and the memories they left behind continue to guide and comfort us.

Let us take this day to pray for their eternal rest and to honor the lives that have touched ours in countless ways.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | Together In Solemn Tradition, NDSSM Celebrates 36th Family Rosary Crusade

Morning of October 1, 2025, the Notre Dame-Siena School of Marbel community officially commenced the first day of the 36th Family Rosary Crusade at St. Catherine Hall. The FRC is a solemn tradition of prayer and unity, it is a nine day novena and mass in honor of Our Lady of La Naval. This year it is guided by the theme, โ€œWith Mary, the NDSSM Family Journeys as Pilgrims of Faith, Hope, and Love.โ€

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Francis Bryan Deita. In his homily, he reminded us that we cannot live a half-committed life to God. We must commit to Him fully, wholeheartedly, and with courage just like Mary did. The sponsors of the day were the Grade 12 students, their families, guardians, and advisers.

๐—˜๐——๐—œ๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—”๐—Ÿ | Call for Change: Filipinos Demand Accountability as Billions Lost to Corruption in Flood Control Projects

Corruption is a pervasive issue in the Philippines, affecting every face of society and hindering the country's progress. The recent allegations of anomalous flood control projects worth billions of pesos have once again brought this issue to the forefront. It's heartening to see that 7 in 10 Filipinos favor candidates who are anti-corruption advocates, indicating a strong desire for change.

The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has expressed concern that corruption remains widespread in all branches of government and the public sector. This is evident in the flood control projects controversy, where billions of pesos allocated for flood management initiatives have been allegedly misused. Senator Panfilo Lacson claimed that as much as half of the โ‚ฑ2 trillion allocated for flood control over 15 years may have been lost to corruption.

Some lawmakers are pushing for stricter penalties for corrupt officials. Zamboanga City Representative Khymer Adan Olaso has filed a bill seeking to impose the death penalty for corrupt government officials. While this move has sparked debate, it's clear that strong measures are needed to deter corruption.

The public demands accountability and transparency from their leaders. As Stratbase Group President Dindo Manhit said, "Every corrupt official we elect weakens our future. But when we unite and vote for honest, competent leaders, we pave the way for real change." It's time for the government to prioritize the people's welfare and take concrete steps to eradicate

By working together, we can create a corruption-free Philippines where public funds are used for the people's benefit, not just a select few.

๐—–๐—ข๐—Ÿ๐—จ๐— ๐—ก | Language or Justice?

On September 26, 2025, at around 6:00 PM, students gathered in front of SMRAA to initiate a peaceful demonstration against corruption. Hosted by Notre Dame of Marbel Universityโ€™s Political Science Society, the event was held to address the current state of our countryโ€™s politicsโ€”particularly the misuse of flood control funds. When the demonstration began, a student gave his opening remarks in English to kickstart the rally. As media outlets covered his speech, users online began to call him out, simply because he spoke in English.

If I were to describe that reaction in one word, it would be โ€œnitpickingโ€. The rally was held to protest against corruption, and yet critics called the speaker out because he used English instead of the vernacular. The demonstration was led and attended by Gen Z students, so itโ€™s only natural that they use English; itโ€™s one of the major subjects in education. Iโ€™d even reckon that his message was already clear enough to the people it was meant for.

This speaker is doing what he can to join the fight against corruption, yet they chose to criticize his language. That kind of reaction is childish. The backlash is unjustified and uncalled for, because language is not what matters right nowโ€”itโ€™s about the misuse of our tax money for flood control.

In conclusion, this student speaker does not deserve the hate heโ€™s receiving. His voice was raised for justice, not for language policing. In this current situation, instead of focusing on corruption, people nitpicked about language. So I leave you with this question: which matters more? Language or justice? Take your pick.
