The Safety First Movement in Kidapawan City
The Safety First Movement in Kidapawan City was established in 2010 through the initiative of the Alpha Phi Omega Philippines, Incorporated (APO) members.
It began as an advocacy campaign to raise awareness about the importance of safe motorcycle riding, as the number of motorcycle users was increasing, yet many riders still lacked proper knowledge and understanding of road safety practices.
The movement was temporarily halted due to certain challenges and the implementation of laws that, at one point, prohibited the use of helmets in an effort to address criminal incidents involving riders.
However, even today, many motorists continue to neglect the importance of safety riding. In response, the current administration of Alpha Phi Omega SOX 12 Section 1, together with the government’s ongoing advocacy, has revived the call for safety and responsible driving.
On October 31, 2025, the Safety First Movement was officially relaunched through coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Provincial Highway Patrol Group (HPG), the Traffic Management Enforcement Unit, and the Office of the City Mayor of Kidapawan.
The program aims to train APO members from Section 1 to become advocates for road safety, and to promote awareness among other college students and motorcycle riders through orientations, seminars, and safety riding workshops.
The Safety First Movement, which was revived in Kidapawan City, also aims to expand its reach throughout the entire province of Cotabato and eventually to the Regional to National level.
