Notre Dame of Kidapawan: Nurturing Future Entrepreneurs through Rotary Partnership

Inspired by the Marist mission of St. Marcellin Champagnat, Notre Dame of Kidapawan is proud to partner with the Rotary Club of Mt. Apo in empowering our young students to become innovative and socially responsible entrepreneurs. Through the dedication of Rotarian Marilou Encabo and the mentorship of Engr. Aline Alviar and IPP Engr. Michael "Mike" Mineses, our students are gaining invaluable, real-world skills in business development, particularly in the vital area of sustainable construction.

This collaboration provides our students with a unique opportunity to connect academic learning with practical application, guided by experienced professionals. It strengthens their entrepreneurial spirit, encourages them to develop solutions that benefit our community and protect our environment, and instills the core values of service and leadership championed by both Notre Dame and the Rotary Club.

We challenge our students to embrace this opportunity, to transform their innovative ideas into tangible projects that will contribute to a brighter future for themselves and the community. This partnership exemplifies how education, mentorship, and civic organization engagement can converge to create a powerful force for positive change, embodying the spirit of St. Marcellin Champagnat and the Rotary's commitment to "Service Above Self."

Proud to share that the Rotary Club of Mt. Apo stands as a committed partner-implementer of DOST-CEST projects in the province, bringing science, technology, and community-driven solutions closer to the people.

Through collaboration, innovation, and service above self, we continue to empower communities, strengthen livelihoods, and create sustainable impact where it matters most.

KIDAPAWAN CITY — The Kidapawan City Coffee Growers Association partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 12 on March 27 to modernize local coffee production through science and technology interventions.

The agreement, signed under the Community Empowerment thru Science & Technology (CEST) program, provides nearly 200 farmers in the Mount Apo foothills with advanced post-harvest equipment.

The agreement establishes a framework for technical interventions, focusing on production, post-harvest optimization, and enterprise development. It also provides for technical training and continuous monitoring to ensure project sustainability.

Key to the intervention is the turnover of PORTASOL solar dryers, designed to ensure hygienic drying and uniform moisture content despite unpredictable weather.

The initiative, supported by the Kidapawan city government and the Rotary Club of Mt. Apo, targets growers in barangays Balabag, Ilomavis, and Perez.

Beyond equipment, the MOA outlines technical training and enterprise development to help farmers move into value-added processing.

Vice Gov. Rochella Marie Ella Taliño Taray, representing Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza, noted the project’s role in provincial livelihood stability.

"More Fish Than Water" Technology Launches to Boost Food Security!

We're thrilled to introduce this innovative technology, supporting the government's food security goals and Rotary's focus on Community Economic Development. The "More Fish Than Water" demo farm will provide literacy and advocacy for farmers in North Cotabato.

This joint initiative of DOST Region 12 and the Rotary Club of Mt. Apo in Kidapawan City utilizes DOST's scientific methods to intensively raise catfish in a limited space.

The launch was attended by dedicated Rotarians of Mt. Apo, DOST Region 12 Director Engr. Sammy Malawan, PD Michael Ty Mayo, District Governor Marlowe Selecios, President Loi Mangayayam and IPDG Hubert B. Quiblat.

RC Mt. Apo welcomes all farmers, groups, individuals, and clubs within District 3870 to visit the demo farm, learn about the technology, and assess its sustainability and replicability for their communities. A vital contribution to our country's food security! ❤️

On September 19, 2025, the Rotary Club (RC) of Mt. Apo hosted a significant event at Titanium Hall, Sudapin, Kidapawan City, welcoming District 3870 Governor Marlowe Selecios and his wife, Lady Mai. The day commenced with a morning meeting where RC Mt. Apo officers presented the club’s plans, programs, and projects for the Rotary year. Governor Selecios highlighted the importance of the DOST-CEST (Department of Science and Technology-Community Empowerment through Science and Technology) project, which prioritizes science and technology-driven initiatives, particularly the "Farming Without a Farm" model of hito (catfish) farming. This innovative approach aims to bolster national food security by promoting sustainable aquaculture practices accessible even to urban communities.

The afternoon transitioned into a fellowship event, also held at Titanium Hall, where attendees enjoyed Halal-themed delicacies and strengthened camaraderie. A key highlight was the induction of three new members—Angeli Disto, Elbert A. Macuse, and Joyce Lemana—representing a 20% increase in membership based on the club’s current roster of 23 active members. These additions are poised to enhance the club’s capacity to drive positive change, aligning with Rotary International’s 2025-2026 theme, “Unite for Good.” Members united in welcoming the newcomers, reaffirming their commitment to fostering community development and reinforcing collaborative bonds.

The event, which also included participation from RI Kidapawan , RI Metro Kidapawan and Rotaract of Kidapawan underscored RI Mt. Apo’s dedication to innovation, fellowship, and service, embodying Rotary’s mission of creating a lasting impact through unity and shared purpose.
