Aklan SWISA Federation Inc. joined “Regional SWISA Reorganizational Meeting and Utilization of Cropping Pattern and Calendar Tool (CPC)” on “Regional and Provincial SWISA Board of Trustees Meeting and Planning Workshop”

The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) through the Water Resources Management Division (WRMD) conducted “Regional SWISA Reorganizational Meeting and Utilization of Cropping Pattern and Calendar Tool (CPC)” on “Regional and Provincial SWISA Board of Trustees Meeting and Planning Workshop” last September 29, 2025 to October 3, 2025 at EON Centennial Resort Hotel and Waterpark Alta Tierra Village, Jaro Iloilo City.
The activity was attended with the total number of 75 participants by SWISA Presidents from across the region (Region VI), together with the representatives from DA-RFO VI, PhilMech, BSWM and other attached agencies.
The five (5) days activity was aimed to strengthen the Regional and Provincial SWISA Federation and share updates on programs, projects and other services of BSWM, PLGU by Ana May O. Edios of OPA-Aklan and PhilMech by Engr. Rogen Jan Flores , Insurance coverage, eligibility, documentary requirements and enrolment process of PCIC, Status of SSIP Implementation and Accomplishment for CY 2025 by DA RFO VI-RAED, Status of Rice Clustering and Consolidation in the Region and Gawad Saka Parangal sa Natatanging Magsasaka at Mangingisda – Outstanding Rice Cluster -SWISA by DA-RFO VI Rice Program, Civil Society Organization (CSO) Accreditation Process and Requirements by DA RFO VI - PMED and Projects, Program & activities of Regional Soil Laboratory (RSL) actual demonstration of Soil Analysis using STK and FertRight Application by DA-RFO VI-RSL where SWISA can access and benefit from.

"Institutional Development Training (Basic Leadership Skills Training and Technical Skills Training) for the Operations and Maintenance of Small-Scale Irrigation Projects (SSIP)"

The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Water Resources Management Division (WRMD), conducted "Institutional Development Training (Basic Leadership Skills Training and Technical Skills Training) for the Operations and Maintenance of Small-Scale Irrigation Projects (SSIP)" for farmer beneficiaries of Agmailig Diversion Dam (DD) from September 9 to 11, 2025, at Brgy. Agmailig, Libacao, Aklan.

The objectives of the training were to enhance leadership and technical capabilities, promote teamwork and community engagement, ensure sustainability, build local capacity, improve agricultural productivity, and empower communities to manage and maintain irrigation projects effectively.

A total of 30 active farmers/members of the association attended the training, along with the Municipal SWISA Coordinator from the Local Government Unit, representatives from BSWM, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Aklan and Iloilo SWISA officers serving as resource persons.

The training aims to increase the capability of Small Water Irrigation System Associations (SWISA) members to strengthen their organization and knowledge in SSIP operation and maintenance. The participants were also trained in utilizing the Cropping Pattern and Calendar (CPC) Tool to identify and make adjustments to their cropping plans based on long-term climate data.

"Training on Soil Health Restoration/Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy"

The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through the Water Resources Management Division (WRMD), conducted a "Training on Soil Health Restoration/Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy" for the Mabais Tagaytay Bantayan Farmers Association (MTBFA), the beneficiaries of the Kipot SWIP, from September 2 to 4, 2025, at Brgy. Feliciano, Balete, Aklan.

The training aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to restore and maintain healthy soils for sustainable crop production, as well as to raise awareness about the importance of soil health, the causes and effects of soil degradation, and the role of balanced nutrient management in improving productivity and resilience.

A total of 30 active farmers/members of the association attended the training. The presence of the Municipal Agriculturist and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) from the Local Government Unit was acknowledged, along with representatives from BSWM, OPA, Aklan SWISA officers and the Regional Soils Laboratory.

The participants were trained in utilizing the Cropping Pattern and Calendar (CPC) Tool to identify and make adjustments to their cropping plans based on long-term climate data. They also performed soil sampling and testing using a Soil Test Kit and computed fertilizer recommendations using the BSWM Fertilizer Recommendation Mobile App.
