A series of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) Trainings were successfully conducted on May 20, 21, 25, 26, 28, and 29, 2026, under the Women Advancing Peace and Resilience in Communities (WAPRC) Project funded by UN Women and implemented through the consortium of United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD), Integrated Mindanaoans Association for Natives (IMAN), and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
The training sessions were held in Barangays Tumbras, Simsiman, and Munaulanan, bringing together women leaders from the municipalities of Kadayangan, Pahamuddin, and Tugunan. Originally targeting 15 participants per municipality, the activity successfully reached a total of 46 women leaders.
The activity aimed to enhance participantsโ knowledge and capacity on the basic concepts of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), validate existing Community Risk Assessments, and strengthen skills in Contingency Planning and Family Preparedness. These efforts are intended to help communities better anticipate, prepare for, and respond to various hazards and emergencies.
Throughout the training, participants actively engaged in interactive discussions, workshops, and practical exercises designed to deepen their understanding of disaster risks and the importance of preparedness, resilience, and community participation. The sessions encouraged participants to analyze local vulnerabilities, identify potential hazards, and develop practical strategies to minimize the impact of disasters within their communities.
The training also highlighted the critical role of women in disaster risk reduction and community resilience-building. By equipping women leaders with essential knowledge and skills, the activity empowered them to become advocates and key actors in promoting safety, preparedness, and sustainable community development.
Participants demonstrated strong commitment and active participation throughout the sessions, contributing valuable insights based on their local experiences and community contexts. Their engagement further enriched discussions and strengthened collective efforts toward building more resilient and disaster-ready communities.
The CBDRR training marks an important milestone in advancing womenโs leadership in disaster preparedness and resilience. Through the WAPRC Project, UN Women, UNYPAD, IMAN, and CRS continue to support initiatives that empower women while fostering safer, more resilient, and peaceful communities across the Bangsamoro region.
