The Red Cross Youth of Visayas State University Isabel actively demonstrated their commitment to service as part of the community support team during the two-day celebration of EStudents’ Days on March 25–26, 2026.

Throughout the event, the volunteers were strategically deployed across different areas of the campus. Some members were assigned to designated first aid stations, while others formed the ambulatory team, continuously roaming around activity areas to monitor situations and immediately respond to any emergencies. This systematic approach ensured that assistance was always accessible and that the safety of students remained a top priority.

During the course of the activities, the Red Cross Youth volunteers were able to put their training into action as they attended to several real-life situations, including students who fainted, sustained minor injuries, and experienced physical discomfort. Their quick response, proper assessment, and application of first aid procedures played a crucial role in managing these incidents effectively.

Guided by the Red Cross mantra, “Always First, Always Ready, Always There,” the youth volunteers embodied readiness and compassion in every situation they encountered. Their active participation not only ensured the safety and well-being of the participants but also highlighted the importance of having trained individuals present during large-scale school events.

The Red Cross Youth of Visayas State University Isabel marked a significant milestone as they participated for the first time in the First Aid Olympics, held at the VSU Isabel Volleyball Court on March 25, 2026, during the opening day of Estudents' Days 2026.

More than just a competitive event, the First Aid Olympics served as a meaningful platform to demonstrate and apply essential lifesaving skills. The activity highlighted the proper ex*****on of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Emergency First Aid, emphasizing accuracy, teamwork, and presence of mind in responding to emergency situations.

The whole group of trained first aiders from the Red Cross Youth Isabel was divided into three teams: Team 1, The Dunant’s Disciples; Team 2, Vital Force; and Team 3, The Band-Aid Bandits. Each team showcased their skills and teamwork throughout the competition.

After a series of challenging scenarios and evaluations, The Dunant’s Disciples emerged as the champion, followed by Vital Force as the second placer, and The Band-Aid Bandits securing third place.

The competition also functioned as an assessment of the knowledge and skills acquired by the young volunteers during the recently conducted Basic Life Support and Emergency First Aid Training last March 21, 2026. Through realistic scenarios and timed challenges, participants were able to translate what they learned into practical application, bridging the gap between theory and real-life response.

Guided by the Red Cross principle and mantra, “Always First, Always Ready, Always There,” the youth volunteers demonstrated their commitment to humanitarian service. Their participation reflects not only their preparedness but also their willingness to step forward in times of need.

Ultimately, the activity aimed to instill confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility among the youth. It reinforced the importance of being equipped with lifesaving skills not only within the school premises but also in the wider community where immediate response can make a crucial difference.

The Red Cross Youth Isabel actively participated in the HIV Testing Initiative in partnership with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, as part of the activities for the celebration of Women’s Month. Anchored on the mantra, “Always First, Always Ready, Always There,” the initiative aimed to promote health awareness, early detection, and responsible health practices among the university community.

As one of the key highlights of the initiative, free HIV testing and other health services were made accessible to faculty members, staff, and students of Visayas State University Isabel. The activity emphasized the importance of knowing one’s health status, particularly in preventing and managing HIV through early diagnosis and proper care.

Guided by its commitment to humanitarian service, the Red Cross Youth Isabel reinforced its role in advocating for health, safety, and well-being. By encouraging students to participate in HIV testing, the organization helped break stigma and fostered a more informed and responsible student body.

The campaign also served as a reminder that taking proactive steps toward one’s health is essential in building a safer and healthier community. Upholding its guiding principle of service, RCY Isabel continues to empower individuals to take charge of their well-being while promoting a culture of awareness, prevention, and compassion within the university.

The Red Cross Youth of Visayas State University Isabel successfully conducted a Basic Life Support and Emergency First Aid Training at the VSU Isabel Social Hall on March 21, 2026.

The training was facilitated by dedicated senior volunteers under the guidance of the Isabel Branch Coordinator, Ma'am Mary Ben T. Petralba. It aimed to equip young volunteers with essential knowledge and practical skills in delivering proper first aid and emergency response, preparing them to actively support campus activities such as the upcoming Students’ Days, while also empowering them to respond confidently to real-life emergencies and serve their communities when needed.

Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, participants gained confidence in performing life-saving procedures and responding effectively to emergency situations.

The program concluded with an inspiring message from one of the Red Cross Youth Adviser, Ms. Fatima Mae De-Guzman-Declaros. In her closing remarks, she emphasized the importance of empowerment, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to service. She reminded the youth volunteers that it is okay not to know everything, as long as they are willing to learn and serve—anchored in the organization’s mantra: “Always first, Always ready, Always there.”

VSU Isabel Students and Red Cross Youth Participate in the First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

In compliance with Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No. 01-016, s. 2026, the Office of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management of Visayas State University Isabel successfully participated in the First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held on March 12, 2026, at 3:30 in the afternoon. The activity aimed to evaluate the university’s preparedness and response in the event of an earthquake and other related emergencies.

As part of the drill, VSU Isabel students, together with members of the Red Cross Youth, actively took part in the simulation by demonstrating proper safety procedures and emergency response actions. The young rescuers played an important role in assisting and rescuing individuals during the simulated emergency scenario. Through teamwork, discipline, and the application of basic rescue and first aid skills, they demonstrated the importance of preparedness and quick response in times of disaster.

Their active participation highlights the commitment of the students and volunteers to promote disaster awareness and community safety on campus. Activities such as this drill not only strengthen the preparedness of the university but also help develop responsible and capable young individuals who are ready to extend help when emergencies occur.

In celebration of National Women’s Month (Philippines), the Philippine Red Cross Youth – Isabel Chapter proudly served the participants gathered at the VSU Isabel Oval Grounds on March 8 for Her Strides 2026, a fun run promoting wellness, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.

Behind the energy of the run were the dedicated Red Cross Youth volunteers who gave their time, strength, and skills to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. From assisting in the event setup to managing the routes and providing first aid, they stood ready to help—treating minor wounds, and closely monitoring runners who needed immediate care.

Their service reflects the true spirit of volunteerism—quietly working in the background, yet making a meaningful impact on every life they touch. Through their commitment and compassion, the event became not only successful but also a reminder that care and humanity are at the heart of every community.

The Red Cross Youth recently conducted a meeting centered on the planning and development of future activities aimed at empowering and mobilizing dedicated youth volunteers. The discussion was held in coordination with Madam Mary Ben Pentralba, the Isabel Branch Coordinator, whose leadership and insights provided strategic direction for upcoming programs and community-based initiatives.

The meeting emphasized the significance of unity, preparedness, and volunteerism among the youth. It also served as a platform to reinforce the commitment of young volunteers to humanitarian service, community engagement, and the core principles of the Red Cross. Through collaborative planning and shared goals, the Red Cross Youth continues to strengthen its role in building a responsive, compassionate, and service-oriented generation.
