Meaning : Invokes the Virgin Mary’s Blessing

Dance culture : Lowland “Christian”

Place Origin : Tibiao, Antique

Ethnos Linguistic Group : Antiqueńo

Classification : Religious

Background
The predominance of Catholic religion in Tibiao, Antique defines their faith and belief to the goodness and mercy of
the Blessed Virgin Mary dedicating the month of May foe a celebration.
The people’s devotion to the Blessed icon have traditionally recorded an account of singing and dancing through a
dance called “Kari”.

Kari is a hiligaynon term for “come’’ and a kiniray-a equivalent of “dali”. The term “kari/dali” suggest meaning of an action on doing something that form part to the development of the dance as entitled. The selected young girls age 5 to 15 years old also called the hosannas compose the group that performs the Kari in every house hold bringing the message of love, peace and prosperity. The tradition of performing the Kari has been passed on through generation as every family with daughters and young girls eagerly let them learn and perform the dance in summer time.
