SUMVAC 2026: 908th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron Deploys “Baywatch” Operations in Balatan for Easter Sunday Safety
Balatan, Camarines Sur — April 5, 2026
In line with the intensified summer security efforts of the Philippine Coast Guard, the 908th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron (908th CGAS) successfully conducted its SUMVAC 2026 Baywatch Operations along the shorelines of Balatan—dubbed the Summer Capital of Rinconada—to ensure the safety and well-being of beachgoers during the peak of Holy Week observances on Easter Sunday.
The operation forms part of the broader initiative of Coast Guard District Bicol to promote safe, orderly, and enjoyable coastal activities during the summer vacation period, particularly as crowds surged across popular beach destinations in the region.
Prior to deployment, all participating auxiliarists formally checked in at the Coast Guard Sub Station Balatan, where final coordination, briefing, and safety protocols were undertaken to ensure operational readiness and alignment with district directives.
The 908th CGAS contingent was led by Squadron Director Aux Cdr Rosalie S Magistrado PCGA, who oversaw the overall ex*****on of the Baywatch initiative. Ground operations were actively supervised by Aux Capt Carlos Eusebio B Oliva PCGA, alongside Aux LCdr Roy Saberdo PCGA and Aux LCdr Firwene Malaya PCGA, who collectively ensured effective shoreline monitoring, crowd assistance, and rapid response readiness.
Providing strong institutional support was the Immediate Past Squadron Director, Aux Capt Francis P Magistrado PCGA, whose continued involvement underscores the squadron’s commitment to sustained leadership and operational excellence.
Throughout the day, the 908th CGAS conducted both foot patrols and seaborne patrols, maximizing coverage across the shoreline and adjacent waters. Foot patrol teams maintained a steady presence along the beachfront, assisting in crowd management, disseminating safety advisories, and monitoring for potential risks. Complementing these efforts, seaborne patrol unit navigated coastal waters to oversee swimmer safety, and provide immediate response capability to any water-related incidents.
The combined land and sea operations ensured a comprehensive safety net for the influx of visitors, reinforcing public confidence and promoting responsible enjoyment of Balatan’s coastal attractions.
The SUMVAC 2026 Baywatch Operations highlight the vital role of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary as a force multiplier in ensuring maritime and coastal safety—especially during high-traffic seasons such as Holy Week.
As beachgoers enjoyed the serene waters of Balatan this Easter Sunday, the quiet dedication of the 908th CGAS stood as a testament to the enduring spirit of volunteerism and the shared mission of safeguarding lives along the nation’s shores.
