But by love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13b

Long before this verse was quoted in sermons, it was lived out imperfectly but intentionally by Christian orders like the Knights Templar. Founded in the 12th century, the Templars took vows not for power or personal gain, but for service—protecting pilgrims, caring for the vulnerable, and committing their lives to Christ under discipline and sacrifice.

Though they bore swords, their rule emphasized humility, obedience, and brotherhood. Their freedom as knights was not self-serving—it was restrained by duty and love, echoing Paul’s call that true freedom in Christ expresses itself through service to others.

A reminder for today:
Christian freedom is not about independence, but love put into action.

In this week of February, we remember the final witness of Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the medieval Knights Templar. Even in the face of imprisonment, accusation, and political pressure, he held fast to truth and honor — virtues that remain central to the Templar calling today.

As modern Templars, OSMTH does not carry swords or stand before kings, but we do inherit the same charge: to serve with integrity, defend the vulnerable, and stand firm in faith even when the path is costly.

May this week remind us that courage is not loud — it is steadfast. And that our witness, like de Molay’s, is measured not by circumstance but by character.

September 1: A Day of Investiture, Unity, and Purpose

On this day, OSMTH and member Grand Priories worldwide reflect on the legacy of chivalry and service. September 1 has hosted international investitures—from Washington D.C. to Serbia—where new Knights and Dames pledge themselves to bridge building, peace, and humanitarian outreach.

As we begin a new month, we renew our commitment to the Templar Rule: defending the vulnerable, fostering interfaith dialogue, and living with integrity.

Let this day remind us that history is not just remembered—it is lived.

As we pass the Feast of St. James (July 25) and recall the Siege of Safed (1266), we remember the steadfast courage of the Knights Templar who stood firm in faith under fire. Though no single event marks July 28 in our history, this season reminds us to remain vigilant, humble, and ready—just as our forebears were during times of testing.

Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam.

As of July 21–22, 2025, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is in full swing—bringing together ministers, UN officials, civil society, and experts. They’re evaluating key Sustainable Development Goals: health ( #3), gender equality ( #5), decent work ( #8), oceans ( #14), and partnerships ( #17). Three of these SDGs are among the eight supported by OSMTH as the only international Templar Order recognized as an NGO in Special Consultative Status. ECOSOC is taking decisive action: from advocacy & adequate housing dialogues, to renewed calls for global solidarity on the SDGs.

Templar Triumph at Tomar – July 13-18, 1190: In July 1190, the Knights Templar, led by heroic Gualdim Pais, stood their ground at the Castle of Tomar against a massive Almohad siege. Outnumbered but unshaken, they defended one of Portugal’s most vital strongholds—securing a legendary victory in the Reconquista.

This triumph cemented the Templars’ role as guardians of Christendom and laid the foundation for Portugal’s spiritual and military future. Even after the Templars were dissolved, their legacy lived on in the Order of Christ, based in Tomar.

Today, the Convent of Christ, built atop their fortress, stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site—a lasting symbol of faith, courage, and the enduring spirit of knighthood.
