Sa Ebanghelyong ito, tinatawag tayo ni Hesus na asin at ilaw ng sanlibutan. Bilang asin, inaanyayahan tayong magbigay-lasa sa mundo sa pamamagitan ng kabutihan, katapatan, at pagmamahal. Bilang ilaw, hinahamon tayong huwag itago ang mabuti sa ating puso, kundi hayaan itong magningning upang magbigay-gabay at pag-asa sa kapwa. Ang ating mabubuting gawa ay hindi para sa sariling papuri, kundi upang luwalhatiin ang Diyos.

Ang Mabuting Balita ay nagpapaalala sa atin ng walang hanggang awa at pag-ibig ng Diyos. Ipinakita ni Hesus na ang Kanyang paanyaya ay para sa lahat, lalo na sa mga itinuturing na makasalanan at itinataboy ng lipunan. Sa pagtawag kay Levi at sa pakikisalo sa mga publikano, ipinahayag ni Hesus na hindi Niya hinahanap ang perpekto, kundi ang handang magbago. Siya ang manggagamot ng sugatang puso at kaluluwang naliligaw. Sa Kanyang pagmamahal, may pag-asa, kapatawaran, at bagong simula para sa bawat isa.
