SACEO, in partnership with the Biology Department, successfully conducted the โ€œKatunggan para sa Kinabuhiโ€ outreach activity at Sitio Baybay, Barangay Nabitasan, Leganes, promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement.
The activity began with a coastal and mangrove clean-up drive following an orientation by Mr. Joshua Jesus Anas III, Focal Person of LIKE. Members of SIHAY and the Biology Department actively participated in collecting garbage and promoting environmental responsibility.

In celebration of Rabies Awareness Month, Dr. Maybelle Nicer conducted a lecture entitled โ€œBiting Truth, Saving Lives: Rabies Awareness โ€” Kontra Pekeng Bakuna ang Katotohanang Nakakagigil,โ€ providing residents with important information on rabies prevention and proper vaccination.

SIHAY also conducted storytelling and coloring activities for the TKC children of Sitio Baybay. The storytelling session, โ€œAng Malaking Yakap ni Manny na Mangroveโ€ under NSTP COB 1-E, highlighted the importance of mangrove conservation in an engaging and child-friendly manner.

The outreach activity reflected the collective efforts of the organizers, volunteers, faculty members, and community residents in promoting environmental awareness, public health education, and social responsibility.

Today, April 23, amid the intense heat and rising heat index, the Hydrate Iloilo (2nd Run) initiative of SACEO was successfully carried outโ€”delivering not only bottled water and towels, but also genuine care, solidarity, and compassion to our hardworking PUV drivers, traffic enforcers, and sidewalk vendors, who continue to serve under the scorching sun.

What began as a simple response to an urgent need became a meaningful expression of collective action. Through the generosity and cooperation of our university community, we were able to provide immediate relief to those most vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat.

Extending this spirit of service, the initiative also responded to the fire incident that occurred earlier this morning in Brgy. Kasing-kasing, Molo, where 200 bottled waters were donated to evacuees at Baluarte Elementary School, providing support to affected families during a difficult and distressing time.

This initiative was made possible through the support of our dedicated volunteers from different units and offices. We also would like to acknowledge our generous donors who shared their blessings to materialize this initiative:

Augustinian Friars
College of Technology
International Relations Office
Research and Publication Services Office
Office of the VP for Research and Innovation
Health Services Unit
USA Student Affairs and Welfare Office

Your generosity and commitment to service made this initiative possible.

Together, we are reminded that even the simplest act can create meaningful impact and strengthen our sense of community.

On April 18, 2026, SACEO, in collaboration with the Philanthropic External and Alumni Relations (PEAR) Office, brought learning beyond the classroom through an educational outreach in Sitio Igtuba, Barangay Camangahan, Guimbal, Iloilo.

Through the storytelling activity โ€œPaglalakbay ni Poly,โ€ Indigenous Peoples (IP) children explored the journey of polymer plastics and discovered the importance of caring for our environment. The session highlighted the 3Rsโ€”Reduce, Reuse, and Recycleโ€”encouraging young minds to take part in protecting our planet.

The learning continued with a fun and creative coloring activity, allowing the children to express their understanding through art while enjoying every moment of discovery.

In January 2026, the Rotary Club of Iloilo, the University of San Agustin โ€“ College of Technology (USAโ€“COT), and International Volunteers partnered to support an Indigenous Peoples community through a responsive outreach initiative.
A key highlight was the installation of two jetmatic water pumps, improving access to clean and reliable water. This effort helps reduce health risks, ease the burden of water collection, and promote better hygiene practices among residents.

Last April 11, the Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office (SACEO), in partnership with the Biology Department, successfully conducted USApang WaSH: Bukal ng Kalusugan, Lingap sa Bawat Tahanan at Barangay Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo City. The activity focused on delivering informative lectures and practical knowledge on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) to empower the community.

Resource speakers shared valuable insights throughout the session: Maโ€™am Christine Betito, Sanitation Inspector III from the Municipality of Leganes, discussed water safety and household water management, while Sir Rodolfo Betito Jr. highlighted the importance of organizing a Parents Volunteer Association. This was followed by Ms. Germay Jean Collado of the Biology Department, who conducted an engaging educational session on microplastics, and Ms. Karen Claire Ebreo, who demonstrated the proper cleaning and disinfection of jerry cans.

With the active participation of Biology students assisting in the demonstration, the activity became more interactive and meaningful for community members. This initiative reflects SACEOโ€™s continued commitment to promoting health, sustainability, and community empowermentโ€”one household at a time.
