Changing the World One Child at a Time
Back in 2011, with a desire to add another child to their family of three, we (Mark and Yen) started exploring the idea of adopting children. In 2012, we received our first foster placement of a baby boy, whom we eventually adopted. We saw firsthand how he wouldn’t cry to express hunger: our doctor explained that this was a classic symptom of neglect. But after a few months, our baby started to trust us, and when he started crying for food, we celebrated the breakthrough.
Through the experience of seeing how a neglected child thrives and soars in the context of family, we felt a burden to share the same privilege with many other vulnerable children. This led us to foster more children, including older kids--which are among the least “wanted” in our culture.
But we realize that the fatherlessness issue is not something that one family can solve alone: hence, No More Orphans.PH was born, to encourage collaboration of as many people as possible, to help bring in as many children as possible to different families, with the support of the various sectors of society. They say it takes a village to raise a child; we believe this holds true especially in our fight for the cause of vulnerable children, and invite each person to take part. Everyone may not be called to adopt, but we believe each one can play a role in alleviating this crisis in our nation.
