We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Iloilo Provincial Government, Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office, LEDIP Center Iloilo Province and our partners Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry - Iloilo Chapter, Inc., Iloilo Coffee Board, DTI Iloilo, and Department of Agriculture - Western Visayas, and Orchard Valley Iloilo for making the Iloilo Coffee and Cacao: Brewing Progress a remarkable success during the 124th Semana sang Iloilo Trade Fair and Exhibit held at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Grounds, April 7–11, 2025.

This event served as a vibrant platform to showcase Iloilo’s rich coffee and cacao value chain—from seed to cup. Visitors were treated to a unique journey of how our local beans are grown, processed, and transformed into world-class products that reflect the hard work and dedication of our farmers and entrepreneurs.

We are especially grateful to our local MSMEs who enthusiastically participated by displaying their products and offering expertly curated drinks throughout the fair. Their passion and creativity brought the essence of Iloilo’s coffee and cacao culture to life. Madamo gid nga salamat Bruskoffee, Paul Kaldi, 60:40, Noble City Café, Sitio Buyuan-Baras Coffee Growers Association, BALAY TABLEA, and Kape Iloilo.

Let us continue to support and patronize these amazing local businesses as they brew progress not only in our communities, but in the entire province.

The Iloilo Coffee Council and the Philippine Coffee Board, in partnership with government agencies and private organizations, recently held a 2-day coffee processing training for Di**le coffee farmers. Over 40 participants from four farmer associations attended, eager to enhance their skills and improve their coffee quality.

The participants were from Lincud Integrated Farmers Association, Caguyuman Integrated Farmers Association, Agtatacay Inegrated Farmers Association, and Tulatula-an Inegrated Farmers Association.

The workshop was conducted by PCBI's Jan Christian Gregory Kilayko, a coffee roaster and owner of Primal Brew Coffee and NurseryRoastery in Makati City, focused on producing high-quality beans that meet market standards, ensuring better income for farmers. The Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office, through Mr Jepty Cabanilla, also conducted training on coffee tree rejuvenation and other good farming practices, while the Department of Trade and Industry Iloilo provided insights on the upcoming Regional Philippine Coffee Competition.

Di**le used to be one of the top coffee producers of Iloilo. When the demand slowed down, farmers left these crops and converted some of the farms to other commodities.

Iloilo Coffee Council is committed to assist in reviving the coffee industry in Di**le. Many agencies and organizations have committed already to help. Together, we continue to strengthen and elevate Iloilo’s coffee industry—one bean at a time!

Strengthening Iloilo’s Coffee Industry Through Education & Innovation

The Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office and the Iloilo Coffee Council, under the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Systems (PAFES), visited West Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry (Lambunao), Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology Poblacion Site (Di**le), and Iloilo Science And Technology University - Leon Campus (Leon) on February 19-21, 2025. These discussions aimed to establish tripartite Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) for developing coffee and other commodity production facilities in these universities, bringing much-needed extension services to the grassroots level.

One of the major projects in the pipeline is the Iloilo Provincial Coffee Center, envisioned to be a hub for coffee nurseries, academic research, laboratory, training, and processing. This initiative seeks to bridge gaps in coffee production, research, quality enhancement, and industry capability-building to uplift the province’s coffee sector.

With PAFES driving localized agricultural development, this partnership brings us closer to a stronger, more sustainable coffee industry in Iloilo!

Stay tuned for more updates! Padayon lang kita

Together with the Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office and the Di**le Municipal Agriculture Office, we had the opportunity to attend meeting and consultation of Di**le coffee stakeholders, mostly farmers, as well as visit to few coffee farms in Lingcod.

The farmers highlighted the challenges brought by El Nino, the challenges to access proper markets to their coffee produce, and the soaring cost of labor in growing, harvesting and processing of coffee. Many have sorted to convert their farms into corn and sugarcane plantation. Historically, Di**le is one of the biggest coffee producer in the province.

The IPAO committed to give more support through farm inputs and production capability building. Department of Agriculture - Western Visayas, DTI Iloilo are also a staunch supporters of projects for the farmers. Private sector Iloilo Coffee Council, Iloilo Coffee Board, Philippine Coffee Board, Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry - Iloilo Chapter, Inc. will assist in post-harvest trainings, market linkages and fair market pricing.

Together, we aim to revive and sustain Di**le's coffee industry, empowering farmers to continue growing some of the finest coffee in Iloilo.
