In an increasingly interconnected world, it is more important than ever to make sure the elderly members of our community are not left behind in digital literacy and public support.
On August 27, 2026, a community outreach program, "Lola and Lola Digital Guide," was successfully conducted at the USWAG Gym in Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City. It was organized by the Information Technology Student Organization (ITSO) from Central Philippine University (CPU).in collaboration with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Region VI led by Regional Director Ann Rapunzel O. Ganzon. The program aimed to inform local senior citizens with essential digital skills and address their primary welfare concerns.
The program formally began at 8:00 AM with fun and interactive discussions about digital safety, fake news, and artificial intelligence (AI), led by Vince Val B. Oรฑate. The senior citizen participants were introduced to how AI generates online content and were provided with practical tips on identifying scams, verifying information using reliable government sources, and safeguarding their personal information. With the assistance of NCSC Region VI, they were also able to ask questions and learn more about government programs, financial assistance, and other benefits available to them.
Despite the unexpected heavy rain, many senior citizens from the community of Brgy. Tabuc Suba showed up and actively participated in the program. It was a meaningful and successful activity that helped the senior citizens become more confident and responsible when using technology. Most importantly, it gave them a chance to share their concerns and learn about the support and services available to them.
