D-Day: A Vision Board Journey with the Youth of SOS Children’s Village

Today marks Phase 3 of Mapping Futures. What began as reflection within the Societas Philosophorum now moves toward an encounter with the youth of SOS Children’s Village, carrying with it the preparation, intention, and commitment formed in the previous phases.

This day brings together a series of activities designed to open space for participation and trust. At the center of the day is the Vision Board Workshop, where the youth will create their own boards and express the aspirations they hold for themselves.

Guided by Mr. Ryan H. Calica, the session will ground the activity in reflection and purpose. His presence will help shape the experience into one that allows the youth to see their direction with clarity.

Phase 3 stands at the center of Mapping Futures. It is where preparation meets encounter, and where the work of reflection is brought into the lives of others. What has been formed within the organization now moves outward with intention.

To the youth of SOS Children’s Village, we look forward to sharing this day with you.

𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝐵𝑜𝑥: 𝐴 𝐺𝑖𝑓𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑡ℎ
& Semester-End Assembly

Mapping Futures is a five-phase outreach initiative of the Societas Philosophorum that accompanies the youth of SOS Children’s Village through creativity and shared formation. Guided by the spirit of reflection, imagination, and becoming, the project prepares both the youth and the Philosophy community for a journey shaped by Augustinian service.

Phase 2 centers on preparation. It gathers the Philosophy community in a shared effort to collect and organize the materials and support needed for the vision board workshop of the youth. This phase reminds us that meaningful encounters are built through patience, cooperation, and care long before the day of the activity itself.

On November 29, 2025, as part of the Augustinian Day of Service, the Societas Philosophorum carried out Phase 2.2: Love in a Box together with the Semester-End Assembly of the organization. Officers, joined by several non-officers, prepared personalized gift boxes for the youth of SOS Children’s Village. Each box was arranged with intention, expressing encouragement and solidarity for the young people we will soon accompany.

This gathering also became a moment of reflection for the organization. The first semester was devoted to strengthening the BA Philosophy community and building the foundation of our work. As we move forward, the Societas Philosophorum prepares to extend its initiatives beyond the program, reaching the wider University of San Agustin and the communities we serve. The work of service begins with formation from within, so that what we offer to others comes from readiness, unity, and shared purpose.

𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑨𝑮𝑶𝑹𝑨 🤍🏛️✨
On October 29, the 𝐁𝐀 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲 community of the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧 gathered for its 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. For many, it was the first time experiencing this tradition as a complete community.

The name 𝑨𝒈𝒐𝒓𝒂 recalls the public ground where philosophical inquiry first unfolded through encounter. In taking up this name, the gathering affirmed a tradition rooted in dialogue and communal life within the discipline.

Held at 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚, the event came into being through the collective effort of students and mentors committed to restoring a shared space for the philosophy community.

For the would-be philosophers, the gathering mattered because the acquaintance party finally took place.

This is our 𝑨𝑮𝑶𝑹𝑨.

Phase 1 of Mapping Futures has come to a close. The officers of the 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 gathered to reflect on the direction of the program and to understand the responsibility we carry as we prepare to accompany the youth of 𝐒𝐎𝐒 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞. What emerged from this shared work was a single vision board for the Philosophy program, created through thoughtful conversation and a renewed sense of purpose.

We thank 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮 for leading the officers through hours of focused reflection. His guidance helped us approach the activity with sincerity and intention, allowing the officers to create a vision board that expresses the future we hope to build for the program and the community we serve.

We also extend our appreciation to the 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐎) for conducting the Phase 1 orientation on community outreach. Their input provided the officers with the direction and responsibility needed as we move toward the next stages of this project.

Phase 1 sets the foundation for the next stages of this outreach. It shaped our direction, strengthened our commitment, and reminded us that philosophy grows when it engages both reflection and action. The work ahead calls for the same clarity we practiced in this first gathering.

To everyone who took part, thank you for the dedication you brought into this phase.
The journey continues with confidence and purpose.

For three years, both students and professors have spoken of one thing: the return of a true gathering. There have been small meetings and shared conversations, but never a celebration that brings the entire community together. At last, that moment has come.

The name 𝐀𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐚 recalls the space where philosophy first found its voice. In ancient Greece, it was the public square where 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 once walked and questioned, where ideas met in open air, and where discourse shaped the beginnings of thought. From this shared ground, community was born.

This celebration is our own Agora. It marks the renewal of presence and the return of a tradition long desired by both students and mentors. It is a time to share laughter, reflection, and the spirit that binds every 𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫 of the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧.
