Exploding off the blocks, University of San Agustin (USA) sprinter Fred Anthony Malinao, a second-year BS Information Technology student, captured two gold medals in relay events during the NPRISAA Meet 2026 athletics competition at the Panaad Park and Stadium Oval in Bacolod City, May 12.

Pacing the Western Visayas menโ€™s quartet in the 4x100-meter relay, Malinao helped Region VI clock in at 41.8 seconds to break the existing NPRISAA record and secure the gold medal.

Backing Malinao in the record-breaking run were Herchel Seldora of the Western Institute of Technology (WIT) and Central Philippine University (CPU) standouts Kent Paul Burdan and Kurt Angel Almoguerra, whose crisp baton exchanges and sprint executions sealed the game.

Adding to his campaign, Malinao and his team also secured gold in the menโ€™s 4x400-meter relay event, completing a double-gold finish in the athletics meet, with Almoguerra replaced by a sprinter from Capiz.

With the triumph, the WVPRISAA relay team set a new NPRISAA 4x100-meter record after clocking the fastest time in tournament history and emerged as overall champion. | via Mico Andrian Dema-ala

Feeding hitters with precise sets and steady ball distribution, University of San Agustin (USA) setter Yssa Maxine Jaruda steered Western Visayas to rallied past Region XII, 3-1, to capture the NPRISAA 2026 Womenโ€™s Volleyball Championship at the University of St. La Salle Gymnasium, Bacolod, May 15.

Following their silver-medal finish in the ILOPRISAA meet, USA Lady Eagles Jaruda and Pamela Gavilaga earned selection to the Western Visayas squad bannered by Central Philippine University (CPU) for the national tournament which was held from May 10 to 15.

Grinding through a tightly contested opener, WV escaped with a narrow 27-25 first-set victory before SOCCSKSARGEN answered with a 25-21 response in the second frame.

Regaining control through sharper floor defense and quicker offensive transitions, Region 6 secured the third set, 25-22, then sealed the championship with a commanding 25-12 finish in the fourth.

Threading quick sets through Region XIIโ€™s blockers, Jaruda earned the Best Setter award after orchestrating Region VIโ€™s offense throughout the championship match while Gavilaga added crucial frontline presence at the net.
