Under the Philippines’ 2026 ASEAN Chairship, the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) will lead the ASEAN Regional Dialogue on Circular Economy on 22–23
September 2026 in Makati City.

With support from the European Union–Philippines Green Economy Partnership and various
development partners, the Dialogue will bring together ASEAN Member States, Centers and Network, national government agencies, businesses, experts, civil society, local government units, and development partners to advance a more circular, resource-efficient,
and inclusive ASEAN economy.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝑬𝑪𝑶 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑 𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒊𝒓𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔

Over 50 student leaders and teachers across the Schools Division of Iloilo City tackled school-level environmental issues to pioneer sustainable campus solutions during the ECo Champions Student Leaders Camp 2026 at Ramon Avanceña National High School, Sept. 17.
Anchored on the theme “Circular Leaders: Lead the Change, Shape the Future,” the one-day summit acquainted youth ,, with ways to convert daily campus waste challenges into long-term circular economy initiatives.
Throughout the event, participants analyzed their respective schools' waste management practices and pitched practical solutions to reduce single-use plastics across campuses in the division.
"Being an ECo Champion is more than planting a tree, picking up waste, segregating plastics, or participating in a disaster drill," said Wendyll Mae Villaprudente, Project Development Officer II of DepEd Region VI’s Education Support Services Division. "These actions may seem small, but when done with commitment, consistency, and purpose, they become part of a much bigger movement toward safer, greener, and more resilient schools."
To deepen their understanding, delegates participated in interactive activities such as The Circle of Possibility, The 10R Rescue, The Circular Chain, and The Impossible Build, where they applied circular design principles to solve real-world school problems.
Flore Cris Joen Garcia, Senior Education Program Specialist for Social Mobilization and Networking under the School Governance Operations Division (SGOD) of DepEd Iloilo City, emphasized the urgent need for localized environmental interventions, noting that turning student ideas into concrete actions is essential for building a sustainable future.
To sustain these youth-led efforts, a parallel session equipped parents and school advisers with strategies on solid waste management, local circularity approaches, and the 10Rs framework to ensure community-wide support.
