The History of Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative
The Cebu People’s Multi Purpose Cooperative or People’s Coop as it is widely known, was organized in December 21, 1972. Its organization was an offshoot of the success of the organized Scarborough Fathers in Hinundayan Southern Leyte in Eastern Visayas.
It started with 27 members with a total initial share of P2,175.55. The credit program first began in 1975.
Today, People’s Coop has grown into a large community-based savings and credit cooperative with 80% of members belonging to the urban poor category.
The organization today has 100,000+ members and over P1.4 Billion in assets. People’s Coop belongs to the top 40 cooperatives in the Philippines and has been awarded multiple times for good governance and uplifting the lives of others.
