Yesterday, on National Studentsโ Day, multiple schools and universities across Iloilo, including West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main and Calinog Campuses, Iloilo National High School (INHS), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) La Paz, Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Guimbal National High School, St. Therese โ MTC Colleges, and Colegio de San Jose, were forced to suspend face-to-face classes and conduct mass evacuations due to bomb threats sent to their respective institutions. The most recent case involved Central Philippine University (CPU). Last week, similar threats targeted the University of San Agustin (USA) โ Sambag Campus and WVSU Janiuay Campus.
According to the dummy account behind these messages, the motive allegedly stems from โunfair treatment of the faculty and staff of the university.โ This series of threats traces back to October 2, 2025, when the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Iloilo City Campus first received a warning message.
The Iloilo City Government has offered a โฑ100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the perpetrator behind these hoax threats, which have repeatedly incited panic and interrupted academic operations. Initial investigations by the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team have yielded negative results, and authorities โ including the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) โ are closely coordinating to address the situation.
