GRACE - Gender Rights Advocate of Calinog for Equality Leads HIV Awareness Symposium at Badlan National High School

On October 7, 2025, the Gender Rights Advocates of Calinog for Equality (GRACE) Organization proudly spearheaded an HIV Awareness Symposium at Badlan National High School in Badlan, Calinog, Iloilo. This vital initiative aimed to educate and empower students, faculty, and the broader community about HIV prevention, testing, and treatment underscoring the importance of early detection and sustained care in combating the virus.

The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders and passionate advocates. GRACE extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Arjee Caro, Principal of Badlan NHS, for opening the doors to this life-saving conversation. Special thanks also go to Dr. Cesarey Mestidio, Rural Health Officer and Mr. Carmelo Carpiso, Nurse and Speaker, whose expertise and dedication enriched the symposium with critical medical insights. The unwavering support of the RHU staff, Badlan NHS faculty and staff, and the enthusiastic participation of the students created a vibrant and receptive atmosphere for learning and dialogue.

A special recognition is given to Sta. Catalina Credit Cooperative–Calinog Branch, whose generous support helped bring this initiative to life.

Throughout the symposium, speakers emphasized that HIV testing is not just a medical procedure—it’s a powerful act of self-care and responsibility. Early detection allows individuals to access antiretroviral therapy (ART), which can suppress the virus, prevent transmission, and enable people living with HIV to lead long, healthy lives. The stigma surrounding HIV often deters people from seeking help, but GRACE believes that education and compassion can break down these barriers.

This event marks another milestone in GRACE’s ongoing mission to promote gender rights, health equity, and inclusive education. By fostering awareness and encouraging proactive health choices, GRACE - Gender Rights Advocate of Calinog for Equality continues to build a community where every individual is informed, supported, and empowered.

Guinakundenar kang GRACE officers and members ang brutal nga pagpatay kang aton abyan kag pareho nga myembro kang LGTQIA+ Community nga si Henzon Libuna Latoza. Amon man nga gina tugyan sa aton pulisya kag LGU nga buligan maagum sang pamilya ang hustisya para kay Henson. Dugang man nga panugyan sa tanan, bilang pag respeto sa nagtaliwan kag tungod indi pa naton matul id gd ang rason kun nga a sya gnpatay, halongan ta ang mag komento kang masakit nga iga dugang sakit sa dughan kang pamilya nga nabilin. Ano si PrEP? At bakit si PrEP? 🤫😷⁉️

As an active and supportive members of the GRACE - Gender Rights Advocate of Calinog for Equality Organization, we are encouraging you to have your PrEP Registration and Enrollment (batch 3) on January 11, 2025, Saturday at our PrEP Station located at Highway Inn Pension House, Dalid, Calinog, Iloilo at 9:30 in the morning. 🙏

The LGBTQIA+ community has been disproportionately affected by HIV, especially gay, bis*xual, and other men who have s*x with men. PrEP provides an added layer of protection, reducing the risk of contracting HIV by up to 99% when taken consistently. This empowers individuals to take control of their s*xual health with more confidence.

Furthermore, PrEP's availability sparks advocacy and policy changes, pushing for wider access and affordability, which is critical for marginalized and underserved populations within the LGBTQIA+ community.

In conclusion, PrEP is more than just a medication; it’s a tool for change, empowering individuals to protect themselves while fostering a healthier, more informed community.

CALLING: We are inviting everyone especially the LGBTQIA+ members to take these important steps towards a brighter, longer and healthier life!

PrEP Registration (batch 2) will be held on December 14, 2024, Saturday at our PrEP Station, Highway Inn Pension House, Dalid, Calinog, Iloilo, starting 9:30AM.

Those who successfully enrolled can avail 50% discount (coupon) upon check-in at the Pension House.

WHAT IS PrEP? Stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, a groundbreaking preventive approach that has revolutionized the fight against HIV. It's a daily pill or bimonthly injection taken by individuals who are at high risk of contracting HIV, such as those with HIV-positive partners, those who engage in s*x without condoms, or people who inject drugs.
