Scholars from Batch 2028 (Solaris) and Batch 2026 (Zenith) gathered at the New Auditorium of PSHS-WVC in Iloilo City last May 11 for the Alternative Learning Program (ALP) and the Service, Creativity, Action, and Leadership Enhancement (SCALE) Program completion ceremonies.

A total of 120 scholars from Batch Solaris successfully completed their four-year ALP journey while 110 graduating scholars from Batch Zenith completed their SCALE Program during the Specialization Years Program (SYP).

โ€œSo, as you move forward, learn the paperwork, [and] build good teams, always take the first step. And most important of all, always, always serve the people,โ€ said Tolentino to encourage the students to keep striving despite setbacks," Hon. Edmundo M. Tolentino, Batch 2023 alumnus.

Tolentino is also the Visayas Representative in the National Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), and Aklan SK Provincial Federation President.

The ceremony also welcomed guest speaker and artist-chemist Marc Van Boom, a Belgian visionary artist known for connecting the fields of science and art through his multidimensional works, inspiring scholars to explore creativity alongside innovation.

During the awarding ceremony, the following scholars were recognized as SCALE Exemplars for their excellence and active involvement in the program: Rain G. Timajo, Mary Sophia Angela R. Buenavidez, Sophia Kirsten M. Tunguia and Jessica Marie B. Dedase.

โ€œThe interests you learned through ALPs would become the foundation for your SCALE implementations, and those SCALE experiences become the stepping stones that shape us into individuals who are ready to contribute beyond the classroom,โ€ Timajo shared in her speech, being lauded as the Top SCALEr.

โ€œThe activities and events we attended were not only part of our SCALE journey, but they have also become an entire part of our Pisay life. The people we met, the organizations we collaborated with, and the acquaintances we formed were all its byproducts.โ€

Grade 10-Photon and Tau, winners during last monthโ€™s PEHM Culminating Activity in the Musical and Tango categories respectively, also showcased their talents during the intermission number. 10-Photon delivered a musical number inspired by โ€œAladdin,โ€ while 10-Tau showed off their winning tango dance.

The event concluded with the singing of Carrie Underwoodโ€™s โ€œWhenever You Remember,โ€ celebrating another milestone in Solarisโ€™ and Zenithโ€™s Pisay journeys. | via Joana Balopeรฑos & Samantha Cristobal

The PSHS-WVC football club clinched a heart-stopping 6-5 victory over the University of the Philippines-Visayas in an action-packed match that kicked off at the PSHS Oval on January 21.

The game was filled with nonstop action as both UP and Pisay fans cheered loudly, creating a lively atmosphere from start to finish.

Pisay struck first as ( #8) Sevilleno found the net early. Followed by another goal from ( #10) Amular, giving Pisay a 2-0 lead at the end of the first 20 minutes of play.

Momentum continued for Pisay as Sevilleno scored once more. Despite pressure from UP, Pisay goalkeeper ( #1) Sotelo stood firm, racking up saves. UP managed to respond late, with goals from ( #33) Sotelo and ( #13) Lutero, trimming the lead to 3-2.

UP struck quickly to start the third quarter, as ( #13) Lutero scored on the first kick, followed by another goal from Aban to briefly put UP ahead. Pisay answered back with a goal from ( #17) Sotelo, while both keepers from Pisay and UP got crucial saves as time ran out. ( #8) Sevilleno then scored again, giving Pisay a 5-4 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Defense dominated the closing minutes. With both keepers from both teams not letting each other score. UP stayed alive with a goal from ( #17) Araneta, making the score 5-5 and hoping to force a shootout. But then, Amular scored the deciding goal for Pisay, sealing the match 6-5.

The match highlighted Pisay and UPโ€™s resilience and timely scoring, as well as strong performances from both goalkeepers.

After the game both #10 Amular and #13 Lutero reflected on the match:

โ€œSince our last game against Barotac, I noticed big improvements in our skills and as well as our chemistry as a team, especially for the beginners. They've improved a lot ever since the start of the school year,โ€ said Amular.

โ€œIt's an honor to be able to play against the team that UP played 2 years ago. Right now we are happy that we got fieldwork and we've gotten a taste of how our chemistry works. Overall it's fun, we're very happy especially because it's the first time in the whole year that we're together playing against Pisay,โ€ reflected Lutero.

In the end, Pisayโ€™s composure under pressure made the difference. With clutch goals and the timely saves, Pisay held off to secure the victory. As cheers echoed across the venue, one thing was for sure: nobody went home disappointed. | via MJ Ong
