๐Ÿ‘€ STRENGTHENING IP REPRESENTATION THROUGH INFORMATION AND DIALOGUE

The NCIP Guimaras Community Service Center, headed by CDO III Aldren L. Dalisay, together with its officers and staff, conducted an Information, Education and Consultation (IEC) activity with the Sangguniang Bayan of Jordan, Guimaras on August 26, 2026.

Serving as resource speaker, Atty. Hermie Jun S. Toledo, Regional Hearing Officer of NCIP Region VI/VII, discussed Republic Act No. 8371, or the Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997, and NCIP Administrative Order No. 1, Series of 2021, otherwise known as the Revised National Guidelines for the Mandatory Representation of Indigenous Peoples in Local Legislative Councils and Policy-Making Bodies.

The discussion provided the members of the Sangguniang Bayan with a clearer understanding of the legal framework governing IP rights, representation, and participation in local governance, including the role of the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR).

The engagement also opened an avenue for dialogue between NCIP and the local legislative body on matters concerning the meaningful participation of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in local governance.

On the same day, the NCIP Guimaras CSC paid a courtesy visit to DILG Jordan Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) Mr. Renante F. Gaitan. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss matters related to the IPMR and strengthen coordination between NCIP, DILG, and the local government of Jordan.

The activity forms part of the continuing efforts of the NCIP Guimaras CSC to build stronger partnerships with local government offices and promote the rights, representation, and meaningful participation of ICCs/IPs in local decision-making.
