We are thrilled to announce that The Handumanan Project is producing another coffee table book. This time, it will encapsulate the rich history and vibrant spirit of the UP High School in Iloilo. This book is not just for you, but for future generations who will walk the halls of our alma mater. It's an opportunity to immortalize the institution’s collective memories, achievements, and the profound impact the school has had on its alumni.

About the Book

Padayon, UP HIGH! Celebrating the Legacy of UP High School in Iloilo is a coffee table book project that captures the legacy of the institution. The book will be a visual and narrative journey through time. It will showcase the honor and excellence that define the UP High School in Iloilo as a community. Our aim is to create a tangible memento that represents the school and its alumni, one page at a time.

The coffee table book will feature:
-A retelling of the school's illustrious history
-Personal narratives from alumni across different generations
-Archival and contemporary photographs
-Highlights of notable achievements and events
-A directory of alumni

“During the launching, Mabunay said the book details the stories of UPV through the eyes of the people who walked the halls of its campuses.

She added that the book also detailed the transfer of the UPV from Iloilo City to its present main campus of Miagao in 1980.

Jardeleza called the contents of the book “serious and heartfelt”, citing the anecdotes and photos contributed by the UPV itself and its students, current and former faculty, and alumni.

“Everything is serious and everything is heartfelt. To a graduate of UP, they would ask, ‘Are we here?’ We can answer, ‘Look at this page,’ then they would see their images dancing or doing other things. There are secrets that are in the pictures,” said Jardeleza.”

Beyond recording for future generations, the story of UPV's journey to becoming a fully-autonomous university serving the Visayas region, Padayon nga Maragtas is part of larger effort to preserve campus landmarks that embody that history.

Padayon nga Maragtas and the Handumanan Project both serve to preserve the past and the unique identity of the University of the Philippines Visayas.

“The insider recollections make for absorbing and fascinating reading. Set against the backdrop of narratives on institutional development, these recollections provide texture and dynamism to what could otherwise be uninvolved and detached stories - as historical accounts of universities are wont to be.”
