Our student presenters, 𝑱𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝑳𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒛 𝑴𝒂-𝒂𝒏𝒈 and 𝓙𝓮𝓼𝓼𝓽𝓱𝓸𝓷𝔂 𝓐𝓰𝓾𝓪𝓭𝓸, confidently presented and defended their research proposal before the panel of evaluators. Behind every successful presentation was a dedicated team— 𝑫𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑵𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍, 𝑱𝒚𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝑨𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒊 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒅𝒂, and 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒂—who worked tirelessly in gathering relevant data and strengthening their research.

Guiding them throughout this journey were their teacher coaches, 𝑴𝒔. 𝑨𝒃𝒃𝒂 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒂 and 𝑴𝒔. 𝑴𝒂. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝑱𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐-𝒐𝒏, who provided mentorship, encouragement, and unwavering support every step of the way.

Their research aims to explore the potential of incorporating a locally available leaf extract into the development of a skincare product that may help inhibit acne-causing bacteria. Through this innovation, the team hopes to contribute to the creation of a more skin-friendly, accessible, and affordable solution for young people experiencing acne-related concerns.

This achievement is more than a trophy—it is a testament to what passion, perseverance, teamwork, and scientific curiosity can accomplish. 🔬

Our sincerest gratitude goes to the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 and the 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗞 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 for providing students and teachers with an inspiring platform to learn, collaborate, and showcase innovative ideas. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗼𝗳 𝟯 | BUTLAK 2026: 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗲 🌱🧫

𝑭𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄. 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑭𝒖𝒏!

These were just a few of the words our students used to describe their first day at BUTLAK 2026.

Jake Lorenz Ma-ang, Jyles Andrei Castaneda, Jessthony Aguado, Dazile Nival, and Chilten, together with their teacher-advisers, Ms. Abba Nicole Cartagena and Ms. Therese Jalando-on, joined fellow participants from various public secondary schools across Iloilo and Capiz for a three-day immersive research and experimentation program at the Philippine Science High School – Western Visayas Campus.

The first day began with lively energizers, followed by a facilities tour that introduced participants to the campus and its state-of-the-art laboratories. Students then immersed themselves in their first learning session and laboratory experiment, where they explored the fundamentals of microbiology. They gained hands-on experience in aseptic techniques, culture media preparation, and other essential laboratory skills under the guidance of experts.

Day 1 was filled with curiosity, collaboration, and meaningful discoveries—a promising start to an exciting scientific journey. Here's to more experiments, deeper learning, and unforgettable experiences in the next two days. We can't wait for what's ahead! 🧪✨
