Last sunday night was a small but solid huddle with IFC fam 🤝

We’re cooking something for this coming November Freelance Meetup and I’m excited because dili lang ni about events , it’s about learning from each other, sharing struggles, and celebrating wins as freelancers.

Grabe ka-inspiring when you sit down with people who get it, the deadlines, the clients, the rates, the late nights. The conversations remind me why IFC exists in the first place: community over competition.

Convos like this remind me na halos pareha ra gyud ta og giagian as freelancers:

❌ Finding consistent clients
❌ Struggling with pricing and being undervalued
❌ Burnout and time management
❌ Feeling isolated, like nobody understands your grind

And this is exactly why IFC exists. Every meetup, we don’t just talk about skills we learn from each other’s experiences, struggles, and wins. Sometimes, the best lessons don’t come from a course or YouTube video… they come from sitting beside someone who gets it.

Nobody warns you about this when you start freelancing…
You’ll spend more time learning how to sell than doing your actual skill. 😮‍💨

And tbh, that hit me hard. When I started freelancing, I thought all I needed was to be good at what I do. Design, branding, strategy …I poured hours into sharpening my craft.

Pero wa ko kabalo…
If I didn’t know how to pitch myself, package my offer, explain my value, No one would even care how good I was.

That’s the part no one tells you. You can be the most talented creative or freelancer in the room, but if you don’t know how to talk about what you do in a way clients understand and want, you’ll get overlooked again and again.

Anyone else learned this the hard way?

Ano ba talaga ang “discovery call”? 🤔
Hindi ito yung tipong free strategy session na ibubuhos mo lahat ng ideas mo.

It’s a short, 20–30 minute conversation to see if:
✅ Fit kayo ng client (at fit din siya sa’yo!)
✅ Naiintindihan mo yung goals niya
✅ Kaya ng budget niya yung service mo
✅ Clear yung expectations before magsimula

Para siyang first date ng freelancing. 👀
You’re not there to impress with everything you can do — you’re there to see kung may potential to work together.

Kaya wag matakot mag-set ng discovery calls.

It’s not just about closing a client, it’s about protecting your energy and filtering the right projects para sa’yo.

Hi, I’m Julz. 💚 I’m a freelancer, brand strategist, and someone who deeply believes in the power of community.

When we started the Iligan Freelancing Community, it wasn’t about being the “first,” the “biggest,” or the “most popular.” It was simple...a space where we learn from each other and teach others who need our help.

Over time, I’ve heard people ask,
“Ngano gahimo ani uy? Managhan ato competition for clients ana..”

But here’s the truth I’ve learned: the industry is so big.

We can only serve what we can hold in our own two hands.
And if we help more freelancers grow, the whole industry grows with us.

That’s why I’m so excited about what’s next for IFC. Together with the core people behind IFC..We’re about to do something big — something that will help Iligan freelancers level up their skills and get bigger, better clients. 🚀
