Bae-a-Labi-a-Gaus Babai Permites vda Macapundag is one of the pillars of the history of Matungao, Lanao del Norte. In her more than 85 years, she has been a true example of an honorable citizen of the Municipality. She was a mother not just to her three (3) children, but to hundreds of adopted children around the Municipality who she took in her wing and raised as her own. Widowed at a very age, h
er children almost just babies themselves, she hurdled all obstacles and became more than anyone has ever dream she would be. Perhaps driven by the instinct to do good for her children, she became mother, father, entrepreneur, leader, sister, friend all rolled into one. Although she did not attend formal school, she was able to calculate without the aid of calculators, was able to memorize in seconds, was wise beyond her years and was outstanding entrepreneur. She was, in her own right, a trailblazer. One of the first, if not the first woman in Matungao to ever take the challenge of making a venture that was monopolized by men at that time. If there was an example of a leader, a trailblazer, intelligent and compassionate woman it would be her. And so it is just fitting that this year, 2012, the heirs of Bae-a-Labi-a-Gaus Babai Permites vda Macapundag are giving out the first ever Bae-a-Labi-a-Gaus Babai Permites vda Macapundag Scholastic and Leadership Award.
